Social Security DOES require you to leave your complete name, spelling of it and social security # and return contact number in order for them to retrieve you from the social security database. Furthermore, if you call social security every case worker specifically state this in their voicemail.

This is a valid SSA number.  Call the toll-free number at 800-772-1213 if you question the validity. They will confirm that 855-897-4927 is the number for the internet claim processing office.  When you file your claim online your confirmation tells you that SSA may have to contact you if there are questions on your application.  They are required to ask you the personal questions to identify they have the correct person on the phone.  Same would happen if you call the 800# or your local office.  This is legit.

Whether or not it's a valid SSA number is immaterial when scammers spoof legitimate phone numbers all the time.
By the way, why are you here if you already know who called you? Do you often look up known phone numbers?

If you already know your call is valid and you accept the fact we might think you're a scammer trying to validate your scam, why would you bother looking up the number and posting about it?

This is social security. When you file online, they have to call if everything is not EXACTLY right. They also have to identify you by phone, which includes your social security number. If you don't want to do it, don't conduct business on the internet. Come on people!

It is legitimate.  If you are paranoid like myself, you can log into http://www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount
and request a chat session.  They will confirm the number, person, and location.

Definite scam. Ms flowers was very convincing and I gave her info. I shouldn’t have. She verified some personal info that made me think she was legit. Called local ss# and found out he’d number was not from SSA

After a lot of investigating and calling the local SS office, I did find out this is a legitimate number from the SS administration. If you receive a call from this number, you should call them back.
