This IS an actual Wells Fargo Fraud mitigation number. You'll probably be okay....

I turned off my "show my number" and attempted to call it back. It would not accept the call. I turned my 'show my number' back on and it answered as Wells Fargo.... scammers don't go to this extent.

But if you're uncomfortable answering calls like this...DON'T ANSWER!!!!!

You can't hide your phone number when calling toll-free. And scammers spoof legitimate phone numbers all the time.
By the way, do you often look up known phone numbers?

It is a scam. I called Wells Fargo Fraud dept. and they said that the number listed is not in their data base. Plus the voicemails they left, 2 of them was something I never talked to Wells Fargo about. They said I talked to a lady at a Branch 13 city driving miles away. I have never been there. and have not been in that area for over 2 years.

SCAM, Wells Fargo Fraud dept. said the number is not in their data base. Their 2 voice mails did not make sense. Something that they claimed I talked to them about. Not true. I have not talked to anyone on the phone or in a branch in over 18 months. I do all online and ATMs.

So we should believe you over "mitchell" who actually called the bank on Nov. 9th, 3 days ago and was told by actual Wells Fargo employees that this is not a valid number?  I think not.  I think that you are one of the lying shills that come here to confuse people.  Lying is against the TOS of this site so your post is being reported for removal.  Go crawl back under your rock.

Edit, wow that was quick, thanks mods!!!  Out with the trash where that post belongs.

I sent a text message to the bank regarding an issue and did receive an email confirming I would get a call.  A voice message was left and a direct line to the person handing my claim was left.  I left a note saying any number can be spoofed.  I used to rely on this site.

What you describe is something  scammers can do and in no way confirms who you actually communicated with. It is very obvious that scammers are spoofing this number, whether it is a legitimate number or not, a caller can not be trusted to be whom they claim.
To be certain you are talking to someone from Wells Fargo, call their customer service number: (800) 869-3557

Thank you for the reply.  I did check another site which confirms some of the previous comments.  I based my notes on my experience and will reach out the bank.  They only asked for me to verify the last four of my Social not the full number.  The person I spoke with stated they are looking into my complaint.  I will follow up shortly.

I can appreciate you following up on the number as to its legitimacy, however, the fact remains this number is being spoofed by those out to steal account info and ultimately your money. The purpose of the site is to raise awareness to this fact, so I hope you understand the  skepticism by others when someone insists a number is legitimate.
The site is not a review site, but a site to let others know about those unwanted/unknown calls and that a legitimate company calling doesn't need to be posted in detail of the call.
Knowing who MIGHT have called is more than enough to let people decide for themselves about their caller. Posting details of a caller out to scam you is what is important so unsuspecting people know what to watch out for. Nobody needs to know the specifics of a legitimate caller, since there is an expectation about those type callers to be doing their job.

I looked at both posts and thought to myself "Who has the most to gain?"  Mitchell called the bank and stated that an actual WF employee told him that this was not a WF number
    Quote:
said the number is not in their data base
So there is absolutely nothing for mitchell to gain from that statement.  Not one single thing.  Then we have "Steve"  coming here 3 days later and stating that this is a legitimate number.  Multiple times because "Steve" is hanging out in this thread to see if anyone disputes his statement.  Then "Steve" feigns being butt hurt because now his panties are in a wad because he was called out.  To quote "Steve"
    Quote:
I sent a text message to the bank regarding an issue and did receive an email confirming I would get a call.  A voice message was left and a direct line to the person handing my claim was left.
So he knew who called and why yet looked the number up anyway?  Why?  Now all of a sudden "Steve" has made another call to the bank to check to see if this was legitimate and all of sudden it is.  Of course his making calls would be speculation on our part.  So what would "Steve" have to gain?  Well if he was one of the scammers he would gain a whole lot by trying really hard to make this call sound legitimate.

Well "Steve" hasn't convinced me this is a legitimate number, but now people can read and understand how persistent a scammer can be when one calls them and pretends to be from the Bank. :)

They will know this is not a trustworthy number .
