Called twice. We DID try to order something. Both cards said, DO NOT HONOR Both accounts HAVE money. Weird!

Got text from 86975 claiming to be my bank. Sketchy and doesn't seem right.

A canned message arrived a month ago, which I didn't play for myself for a couple weeks. The Caller ID CNAM was "Fraud Center", which could be from a fraud peddler as easily as a fraud preventer.

This featured different female voices for the message body and some clumsy inserts of specific details. Inserts were the caller's CNUM, my bank's name, and my name badly mangled. No surprise there, everyone mangles it. I was advised that "we need to verify some recent activity on your MasterCard debit card ending in [correct L4 digits inserted]. Please ensure that you have your case number [inserted here] when returning our call." I was instructed to ring the same 855 number or else "collect at [inserted] 727-227-2447" if I'm outside North America.

So in my case plenty of personal data were accurate. Within the prior night I did attempt a transaction online to renew a service I've used for over a decade. For whatever reason still unexplained, the payment processor rejected my quite correct input. I'd made enough retries to lock out my own swipe card. Therefore, at least for me, the "Fraud Center" was only trying to help. I happen to know that my bank farms out this sort of security management to a larger bank on weekends and holidays, which also tracks with my story. Insert the usual disclaimers here about your own due diligence.

When I got around to addressing the problem one quiet overnight, I followed the bot ladies' instructions, entering their "case number" with care. The automated system all but gave me a shrug and couldn't find the trouble ticket. Later I resolved this in short order with a live banker downtown, like I should have anyway. I described my experience and stressed how easily this clunky unmanned system might be dismissed as the work of Gujarat Province greaseballs, especially considering its bout of amnesia during my response.

Recorded message saying it was from my credit union concerning suspicious activity on my credit card. I went to the credit union and talked to them, they said it was not them. It was someone wanting the info about my card.  FRAUDULENT !

woke out of dead sleep with phone buzzing over & over, Received text from 86975 asking if I made $100 purchase, replied no, then several other alarms from my Bank CDT for different purchases blocked, called 24/7 line for my bank, locked card. Holiday weekend, will cl bank Tues.
