I received a call from a private phone number stating that they were trying to serve me papers, as I was supposedly getting sued. The woman I spoke with gave me the number 855-984-0797 and stated that they were the lawyers office that could give me further information. Upon calling the number and dealing with an extremely unprofessional male on the other end of the line, I hung up. I haven't heard anything since and this was 3 days ago. I don't owe any companies money and luckily so, as I may have believed them. Don't ever give anyone your information over the phone. If it seems fishy, it usually is. Has anyone else experienced this??

I have received 2 calls from this number saying they were trying to serve me papers. I checked all my local court websites and I am not being sued. The address they had for me was over 10 years old. Plus, the case number they gave for the court papers is not an actual case number format. Scam!

There are sooooo many scams out there.  I received the exact same phone call.  I didn't call the number back. Will be reporting this to our District Attorney.

I resived call from private number they left a voicemail with case number and asking me to call to this number 855 984 0797 as I know I don't have any sues problems....My guess it's SPAM.

Received calls the last few days stating I am being sued and they are trying to serve me papers. They have an old credit card number saying I owe money.

I have also received calls from this number stating the same. I look into my Credit karma to see if I had any bad debt collections and I do not.

Same caller from Douglas and Assoc.  Steve and James are a couple of "wanta be" paper servers.  Bad thing is they have my sister in laws social security number.  Major fraud

I have this number call numerous time threating me. I am going to turn this number over to the local authorities.

I have received multiple phone calls from this "lawyers office" stating they are going to serve me papers on a bill they say I have that is over 10 years old. they have my social, my phone number, my moms number, my moms address. They call her then call me. Stacy Harris and Dan Walker. They have also called from (Stacy) 213-289-0990 and (Dan) 909-450-5394

Same situation here, except they were calling my cell and Work.  Threatening to serve at work and said would be meeting with my manager.  They even emailed me a contact to sign to pay them.  Full ss# was on it.  I tore into them and was begging them to com to my work because we had the Fort Worth PD staying with us that week.  They said I was threatening them then hung up and not called since

Very aggressive person named Blake Edward with Douglas Law. Said I owed money from 2006! Said they were going to serve me papers. I don't owe any money. Got my Ex husband and are threating him. We weren't even married then.  Scam! Wanted my debt card number.

Stacy Harris called me saying they were trying to serve me papers and needed my address. Not calling them back. They are scammers. Don't fall for it.

Also call from 855-984-0897.  Note similarity in numbers.  Also using a CID of Barry Douglas & Associates.

In any event,

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question.  As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes.  The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question.  Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else.  So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you.  Let the FTC sort it out.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

Very suspicious call, claiming to be an attorney saying that I owed money, yet when I asked for contact information for the alleged debtor the man got EXTREMELY RUDE, calling me names ect. Has to be a  scam

Hey, yes, my brother is currently going through this and he's young and was really stressed over this because THEY DO know info about a particular debt and him. I am very afraid of the underlying theme here. How do people get this info so that it sounds so real. I know it isnt as this exact tactic is and has been lamented online. All I gotta say is this is epidemic and needs to be flushed out and people need to be help toi account. Imagine how much $$ they've managed to scare outta people. It's great to post for awarness sake but I wanna know how to track down and serve justice. Any ideas??
