- KDR| 4 repliesGetting inundated with calls from various phone numbers all of which are Portfolio Recovery. Which according to my state's Attorney General's office is owned by Capital One... They seem to specialize in trying to collect on items long past Statute of Limitations... They use mailers made to resemble the ones sent out by SS and according to the AG's office is being investigated for possible fraud, harassment and various other illegal activities. Their best suggestion is keep records of all dates and times of the calls for future legal actions..
- Caller: Potfolio Recovery. Capital One
- Call type: Debt collector
- KDR replies to John J.| 3 repliesKeep Track of times and dates and if they leave messages... It is basically Capital One and technically considered fraud if they do not tell that..... if it is any consolation.... though it only costs them pennies a call it is still costing them.....
- Jill replies to annoyed todayhow do you do that and thank you
- Alfalfa replies to KDR| 1 replyThey aren't owned by Capital One. They buy their defaulted debts for pennies on the dollar then attempts to collect twice as much as they paid for them---any which way they can:
http://hamptonroads.com/2013/09/turnips-can-bleed-portfolio-recovery-story - TheCentralScrutinizerI get calls from them all the time from different #s I do not have credit card and they never say who they are looking for. Its all part of this recent economic cannibalism.

- FedupI have blocked so many numbers from this company. Called me for 10 yrs. every day even holidays. Say I owe a debt from 1990. They can't produce an original contract signed by me. Have reported them to Attorney General's office. They stopped calling for a yr. now they are back at it.
- Caller: Portfolio
- maria| 3 replieshow do I block this number?
- WBIt is from "Portfolio Recovery"
They call from numbers in GA, CA, several states. They buy prior old debts for 1c on the dollar or old lists of thousands of written off debts from banks paying $100 for the complete list. They have no rights what so aver to collect on them, but imply they do and push for a payment. Block their numbers when they call. If you do not, they will keep calling. If you give them ANY information, they then re-list the debt on your credit report as if it is owed to them. Being that you talked to them they take that as if you have acknowledge the debt to them even though you have not. Listing a new claim for a debt on your credit rating, THAT IS fraud on their part and makes their harassment subject to a $3,500 judgement against them for having done so. If they call let them know you know that and clearly tell them you are recording the call and not to call again being you are poor and could use an extra $3500.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Call type: Debt collector
