- Nee Nee| 2 repliesReceived call this morning from 866-215-0522 from "Mr Hayes" from the "Pre-Council Summons Division" at my local jurisdiction attempting to serve a summons. Advising me they plan to serve me at work or home in the next 24-48hrs and I need to be available with 2 forms of ID. If I fail to sign for a summons it could mean a missed court appearance. If I wanted to talk to whom filed a summons against me I can call the phone# above or press 1.
RED FLAGS this is a scam
1) Since when do people call ahead to serve a summons (RED flag)
2) Why do I need 2 forms of ID to be served (RED flag)
3) Any civil matter is usually put in writing from the court system or attorney, not a phone call (RED Flag)
4) If someone did show up at my home, who would let them in to potentially get ROBBED and STEAL your ID (RED FLAG)
5) Since when do you sign for a summons, Summons are served with no signatures involved last time I checked.
6) I called the phone number above back and hung up. Immediately my phone rang and the call came in as 312-224-8350 (RED FLAG)
I contacted my local police department advise them of this scam and advise that there are fraudulent suspects trying to imitate law enforcement. My local police department advise if an officer was dispatched to my home it can be verified via 911. Scammers didn't think about that!
Keep your doors locked, burglar alarms on, and make sure your family is aware as well. Better to be safe than sorry and especially staying off the 11 o'clock news!
