- Deborah white| 1 replyHello, I kept getting calls from a 301 number telling me to call this number because someone had a claim against me- and the funny part was they gave me two different people. One was some lady and the other was some clothing catalog that I know nothing about. He wanted my credit card information, but I was not giving that up
- Caller: Not sure
- Call type: Debt collector
- K replies to Deborah whiteI got the same kind of call... I think its a scam but I don't know for sure.
- A.NeffGot a call from 301-355-9699 and was given the number 866-217-1893 to call regarding documents for my ex husband who I have not seen in 15 years. When I said I had no relation to him they said they would document that he falsified records and to disregard the call.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand.- Caller: Informational post

- C KDidn't get the return number of the caller but was told I had two hours to call 866 - 582-5961 (a company called Luxford & Truman Services) or face a summons to appear in court. I called the number and was told I owed a company I'd never dealt with and would have to pay $600 for a DVD I never bought. I felt trapped (and, as I told them, like I was being robbed at gunpoint on the street) and they eventually said, "Okay, give us $120 and we'll not send a negative report to the Credit bureau. A similar thing popped up once when I was buying a car and had to pay $$$ for something I'd never heard of. These things are a pain and without paying for a lawyer, it is just like a legal robbery, or having to pay an attorney to prevent a robbery. Also I think the company's employees know it's a scam, but hey, it's a job.
- DougWanted to Share because just like me, you are looking for answers. Got a call yesterday from Luxford & Truman Services about a Civil Complaint. Just like above I had 1 Hour to call 1-866-582-5961 to address the "issue" CASE NUMBER HM602 ;). At the time I was in the car and had no time to research if this was a Scam so I called the number; I was on hold for 10 minutes before being forwarded to voice Mail. After getting home I was able to determine this was simply a Scammer calling trying to sucker me/people out of their hard earned money.

- Lee replies to Jessica| 3 repliesIs this a scam there saying I owe a phone bill from 15years ago and the was going to take my Ss check
- WGot a call too. They said i owed a verizon bill $563 and they wanted like $140 to settle. I kept asking them questions so hey got a little angry and said that we will proceed since it seems like i dont want to pay. I froze my credit and have a fraud alert. good luck scammers on trying. I asked for account number since Verizon told me collectors should be able to give me this but they gave me a story of why they dont have it and only had last 4 numbers. There's 2 ladies too. One sounds like a black lady and the other sounds like a spanish lady. Oh and my phone never rang just went straight to Voicemail which is why i callled. So the spanish lady says I owe this amount and they say your social ends with this and so on. They got al my social numbers, date of birth but wrong name. Then second lady talked to me yesterday sounding condenscending saying if we were scammers why wuld we have all this info on you and if your were a good person, one who pays up, I wouldn't be doing all this.. And then she said why would you call us again since i was trying to get accoun number since verizon couldnt give me anything without account number or phone number. First time i called the lady gave me a full phone number second time i called black lady then says we only have a few digits and etc. So i cant even verify with Verizon if it was sold off. I know I dont owe anything. We recently got a house and my credit clear so I have no idea what these ppl talking about. Froze my credit and my credit on fraud alert since they have most of my info. Called my bank as well to tell them and they reassured me they will let me know if anything looks abnormal and for me to keep checking. Guys be careful. Im still unsure if they real but i really dont owe anything so ill see what happens if anything happens at all. last year someone somehow made another credit card under my name but i had my credit card.....they bought 2 $100 gift cards from a local rite aid in a run down neighborhood. I reported it and it was settled that it wasnt mine. Experienced this type of theft last year and now this year. So be careful!
