    Someone was issuing me a summons and I needed to call them back immediately to resolve the issue. I called the number back and it said that no one was there to take my call. They even gave a case number: NC676.

    Suspicious
    Called my mom and said there was a debt warrant being served against me, gave a case file.  When I called, they did not even have my correct address or info.  They refused to provide me info on the supposed credit due and wanted a debit card payment immediately.  There is no such debt I owe and I verified by my credit reports.

    Message left on my phone was  -  I am rating attorney.  Off the record to return the call.  I am officer Greg Williams and the hotline to my division is 866-217-0680.  If you don't return the call or if I don't hear from your attorney, the only thing I can do is wish you a good luck as the situation badly falls on you.
    Who says that.

    Annoyed
    Someone with a very very thick accent called me claiming to be Officer Greg Williams claiming there was a time sensitive manner and that my attorney needs to call them back immediately.

    Strangely enough, they said if I don't call back, then good luck to me, very weird.

    Anyways, I call them back. First time guy answers and just says "Hello?". I said someone called me from this number and they hung up. Called back, was greeted with someone saying "Revenue Canada". asked to speak to Greg Williams, then they hung up

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Tired of this crap
    Called today saying they were sending someone to issue a warrant to me if I didn't return phone call in 1 hour.  Only courts can issue warrants, and I don't owe anyone anything.

    I recieved a call from 1-281-652-8848. The Caller-ID said it was from NSL. Man had slight, unrecognizeable accent. He stated that he needed to verify my address as a claim was very soon being served against me. I was leaving the house and in a hurry. He said to call 1-866-217-5709 to make arrangements for being served. Three hours later, I called the number. Very American gal answered. Hmmmmmm.... I am glad I looked here before calling! She said this was the JR Group in California. The wha? The Jackson Robinson Group and she was with the arbitration division. She needed to verify my birthday. I didn't give it to her. Turns out, she had it. She needed to verify the last four of my Social Security number. I didn't give it to her. Turns out, she had that, too. So, I asked her to verify full name of company, address, their main telephone number.  She said that she couldn't give out any of that information until I verified who I was. I said, "So there. A Catch 22. Go ahead and just serve me." Hung up.       I suspect this is about a debt 16 years old that someone has been trying get. If they do serve me,  I will let you know
