- Trudy Savage| 4 repliesThis number locked up my Ipad and they want us to call this number to get it unlocked.
- Badge714 replies to Trudy SavageThe number didn't lock up your iPad. You either clicked on a link (ransomware), or you gave control of your computer to that number (fake tech help scam). You may have to take your computer to a brick & mortar repair shop. Be aware that all your files may be lost. I hope you have kept backup copies.
- Martin replies to Trudy Savage| 2 repliesGo into Settings in your ipad, select Safari, and then click "Clear cookies and data". That should close all the open tabs on safari.
- Birdy replies to MartinThanks it worked!

I called the number and ended up talking to a guy with heavy Asiana accent. He asked my name. I asked if it was
Apple Support. He replied, YES. Although it sounded fishy to me I somehow believed him because these days
everything is outsourced anyway. Then the guy acted as if he knew the problem and asked me to go to my desktop and start Internet Explorer, not Safari, and look for some website with extension " .me". This sounded like genuine. I tried but nothing happened on my desktop screen. I shut down the browser. Then the guy on the phone said that my phone and all computers and all devices connected to the wifi were hacked. He said that a technician would be assigned to secure my network, etc. I asked, Apple technician? He said, yes. Then he got to the point of support package and credit card information. I told him that
I was not comfortable so I hung up. Later I found out that this is a scam going on. I reported the phone number to FCC and talked to real Apple Support and reported the incident. Apple rep said that there is a lot going on and asked me to simply ignore such messages in the future because iOS is a hard nut to crack and it is very, very difficult to hack any Apple device.
I hope so.- Caller: "Support for Apple

- RoseGot a call from a private number today telling me to call this number, claiming that they had a plaintiff with a case against me for credit card fraud and they had a docket number in my county. I called the number from a different phone, and "Rebecca" answered, and when I asked what company it was, all she would tell me was "Legal Outsourcing Division." She kept pressing me to find out who I am and wouldn't tell me what company the division belongs to.

- Old Confidence Man replies to sydkayHi folks. I am not a computer nerd but come from an older background of running confidence schemes. It was a lot of har work and talent, even an art form back then. Today it is a technology driven world but the thrives are still there. Take my advice, if you have an intuiton or gut reaction that something is wrong. It is. Do not let your rational start convincing you of anything else.
