Identity theft?

Someone called.  said someone was opening an account with b of a.  Wanted my address.  I said no.  They gave me this number.  When I called it was more of the same.  They said they were bank of america.  I called bank of america and they didn't know the number.  They wanted my SS#.  Of course I refused to give it.  Would like to know if this is a legit b of a number or not

I'm a victim of serious Idenity theft mainly related to my Bank of America accounts. Theif has netted over 10K in 6 account take over events between 3/08 and 5/08. This number is associated with Bank of America legitimately. I was in my local branch manager's office and B of A's fraud department connected me to this number. It is the number for B of A's in house Identity Theft department. They can help you if you're a victim - don't know if you have to be a customer or not.

Danika from BofA called me today checking info to see if it was me. Wanted my SS# and said someone was trying to open an account in my name. I didn't give her any info except my street address. She gave me a reference and said call back and also said she'd email me. Then she said call their  indentity thief number but I was on perma hold. Sounds suspect.

I work for the ID theft area at BoA and yes, thats our number.

Yes, BofA had to cancel an give me a new Credit Card due to receiving a call from someone claiming to be a bofa employee asking about my personal information.  When I called this number they had the whole history, and they offered me a credit protection service.

Definitely the B of A Identity Theft Unit.  I verified by calling the number on their website 800-552-7302 to verify the 866-231-5147 number.

Received a call from Bank of America and asked if I applied for a credit card yesterday.  (Middle Eastern accent.)  I had not and do not have an account.  He said that someone filled out an application with my name on line and that my address was missing. He knew my name.  He wanted my address to mail me the fraud paperwork.  He said he had my SS#.  I asked him what it was.  He didn't answer.  He then said he'd transfer me to FIA card alertto be helped with fraud.  A woman answered and said there was a Georgia address (different state).  I said, how did you know it was fraud.  She said something wasn't right with the application.  I told her to cancel the application and she said she would.  She said she'd mail the closed application papers to me, (but she didn't have my address!)

I've had a BofA Mastercard since 2005.  Today, BofA's "Fraud Dept" called me and said someone in (I think he said Bulgaria) had just tried to open an account using my account number.  He asked me for a new different log-in password and said he would cancel my M/C account and send me a new card with a different number.  

He also said I should call 866 231 5147 or he could connect me if I preferred.  I called this number and spoke to a Debbie Brown.  It seemed to me she just wanted to try to sell me some credit card  protection service which makes me wonder if the sales pitch was the idea behind all of this maybe?  She gave me 3 more toll free numbers which I could call to get info on credit card protection and credit report info.  I never called any of them.

I then called the number on the back of my BofA credit card and finally through to the Fraud Dept.  They told me the 866 231 5147 was their "victims assistance unit" number.  He also confirmed the new log-in password which I had earlier provided and said the account with the comprimised info had been closed.  So far, so good I guess.

I just got that call so is this legit or not?

Yes it is legitimate. I am BOFA analyst of that unit.

Good move! If in doubt always call the number on the back of your card or dial the trusted phone number for the company.

Got a call from this number saying someone opened a bank of america card under my name and they wanted to verify if I had done so.  They new my name and home address.  I said I never opened the account.  I called bank of America fraud department and they do not have any record of a new account under my name.  Scam!

dont do it. they are stealing your id

This is a legitimate number for Bank of America Victim Assistance.

I received calls from this number on both my landline and my mobile device.  I did not answer either of them because I did not recognize the number, but I also received an email from Bank of America. I then called them back and confirmed the details of an online transaction I myself had initiated earlier in the day.
