- Marc| 5 repliesThis is a sleazy collection agency that preys on people who just had a loved one die. Do not give them any information. They're called DCM Services.
- BigA replies to MarcSorry for your loss. Easily solved with one of three types of letters. Debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me". If there is an estate then all you need to do is direct them to the person who is in charge of the estate (executor). If there is no estate then you need to read the FTC page about how you are not responsible for the bills unless you actually co-signed them.
- DinksThey've just called me and left a message. I don't answer unknown calls, and am weary of people leaving messages with no details. I do not plan on calling them back. We are paying all our debts independently.

- Marc reignYep. Same as others. These guys are vultures

- WordWe started getting these calls as well, 30 days to the date since my father passed and he was paid in the future on a lot of his bills, he did not carry any debt.. they can send a bill if there’s something we missed, but definitely sounds like fishing for info.

- Mary replies to MarcYes! They are a sleazy collection agency, who has called me non-stop since my spouse passed away. I kept telling them to stop calling me... but they didn't! I finally had to have their # blocked!
- JoAnna| 1 replyCalled me today about a medical debt that Was my mother's, who passed away 7/20/2020. I asked the guy how he got my private home number but git no answer. He wanted information about who was responsible for paying the bill. He got absolutely no information from me. My name & phone number were not on anything to do with my mother.

- CR| 1 replyThis is a fraudulent debt collection agency. Repeated calls about non-existent debt . Started within days of my mom passing away. Absolutely despicable.

- BigA replies to CRYou will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front): http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general
Also file a complaint with the Minnesota Dept. of Commerce:http://mn.gov/commerce/consumers/file-a-complaint/index.jsp
Since they claim to be lawyers, also file complaints here as well: http://lprb.mncourts.gov/complaints/Pages/default.aspx - Yes replies to Marc| 1 replyYes, USAA assigned this company to me after my husband died. They are bill collectors for the dead - the sleaziest kind.
- TGKeep getting calls wanting the executor of my mom's estate. I won't call them back. My mother doesn't have any debt. If there is debt, the company she owes can send an official letter. Plus, the guy that tried to call me, his name is Travis, you can tell he is driving. I can hear the wind blowing through the windows and the engine of the car. Not a professional, sleazy person.

- Ellie replies to JoAnnaJoAnna- first let me say I’m so sorry for your loss. Second, these vultures buy third party data which they get from either your smartphone or from your home internet usage. Every site & every app that you use uses something called “cookies”. They’re trackers & follow you across the internet to every single site you use or otherwise visit. It’s actually quite creepy. This is why the EU passed such strict privacy laws about 2 years ago now.
- Ellie replies to YesOMG!! As a veteran, I can’t believe USAA would be THAT sleezy!! I’m extremely disappointed with them…just 😮😮
- GrievingSpouseThis number called my cell which is a private #. The person was Travis Newman & he asked for the person handling the estate of my husband who recently passed. How he got my # is a mystery. It's a gov't cellphone & unlisted. These people are TERRIBLE!!
- Caller: Travis Newman

- Pearl| 3 repliesThese people called asking for Petty Officer ******. My ex had no will. I did not assume any debt. Our daughter is 15 and lost her father, yet they are sending her letters asking her to call them about handling the debt he had with them. I am seriously considering closing the savings account I opened (not her dad) for her several years ago. I find this to be dispicable.
- Caller: Monica-No company given
- BigA replies to Pearl| 2 repliesI'm not entirely sure why you would think that you need to close an account that belongs to a minor. I also don't understand why you have not taken the very easy step to stop the calls?
- Sylvia replies to BigA| 1 replyMy husband passed away recently. I just got a call from a toll free number. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. I just googled the number (866)234-0509 and these messages on 800 notes came up. He had a USAA credit card. I called them when he passed away and they offered their condolences and said they would retire his account. So don't understand why it would go to a collection agency.
- BigA replies to SylviaSorry for your loss, but the only reason I could think of is he must have owed them money. But in any case the solution has been posted.
- Melissa replies to MarcThank you Marc for the post , I am also receiving phone calls several times a day ,from these people, I lost my spouse ,
Where do these people get off preying on grieving people? They won't get anything out of me ,a friend of mine lost over $30,000 after her husband died ( her entire savings)These people make me sick ,and need to be reported. - maryMy brother-in-law (a vet) died a couple of months ago. My sister received a call from this company regarding a USAA credit card bill owed but she and my other sister worked with USAA a few weeks ago to close his card ,etc etc. He never carried debt--paid off his balance monthly!
My sister is calling USAA directly to confirm the info that this company said. Based on what I hear here, these guys are scammy.- Caller: DCM Services
