- DIESELDOC| 5 repliesI got a call from 281 514 4740 from a person named Adrian who said he was with Hewlett Packard. I researched this number to Greenspoint, Texas. He said he wanted to veryify a purchase and needed some security information. The number he said to call back was 866 246 0504. I haven't called back yet. Also, I didn't buy anything from Hewlett Packard.

- Mathias replies to DIESELDOC| 2 repliesi just got the same call, but did buy something from HP. However, not the same phone number HP left in the email confirmation the sent me. I called it back, and had a legit sounding greeting, but then said "all agents are busy, please call again later" and hung up...very strange.
- Sundy replies to Mathias| 1 replyI too received a message from an 'Andrea' something about a computer I ordered. Well I haven't ordered any computers and feel this is a scam. I am not returning the call. Recommend everyone do the same.
- Sundy replies to SundyI forgot to write the call back number was also 866-246-0504. I deleted the message.
- It's realI got this same phone call from adrian and googled the number, got this website and assumed it was false. I called it anyway and the woman that answered, barbara, said she was with the "loss prevention" department of HP. I told her that since I couldn't verify that the phone number I called was a legit HP number that I would call back through the website's phone number (1800 buy myhp) and through them I was directed to the loss department. They had a record of my conversation with Barbara and someone had indeed tried to buy a mini hp computer or something for almost $500. I had to cancel my card... this blows, but at least they didn't get anything out of me.

- cam| 2 repliesI did order something from HP and had a problem with the order. I called HP and was told that they would have someone call back after the order was reviewed. Within a couple of hours someone called from HP and gave the number 866-246-0504. I haven't been able to get back through, but this number is legit.

- grouchoreceived a call from this number this afternoon. called back after going through comments above. folks said they were trying to confirm an order after suspecting fraudulent use of my credit card; they suggested I call credit card company to cancel card. Credit card company told me purchase was attempted on west coast this afternoon; I live on east coast. Credit card folks have canceled card and notified reporting agencies.

- Careful 1 replies to camWell I got a call from a woman at 281-514-4740 who claimed to be from HP to verify my Discover Card info for an online purchase of $524.00. This was a fradulent charge and because she wanted way too much detail I decided to call them back after verifying with Discover. She gave me 866-246-0504. Discover says the charges did occur so now I have to dispute them and cancel my card.
Be careful - do not provide any information. - MKQ| 2 repliesI just got one of there and it was REAL. Someone used my card online to buy 2 things from HP online. Once on MOnday 1/5 and once about 5 hours ago. Had to do the new card thing as well.

- Jennifer replies to MKQ| 1 replyGot a call from that number. Turns out it was legit. Someone used my credit card to place an order over $700. I called the HP number directly from their website (HP) and confirmed that the order was placed. Ugh. What a mess.
- Jan replies to camA message was left on my phone to call this number at HP. When I called I spoke with Barbara who said it was the fraud division of HP. They couldn't find anything associated with my phone number or name and I refused to give them any credit card numbers. Next, I called a legitimate HP number and spoke with their executive customer service who said the number is linked to their 800 number where people can place orders. Somehow my phone number is linked with a suspicious order which they can not find. None of my credit cards show anything suspicious. But it looks like the number is legitimate and it is connected with fraudulent order investigations. Needless to say I am monitoring my bank and credit accounts-- just in case.
- MandyDid not think this number was legit at first but after some research and calling HP they stated it was the 800 number for calling in products. Just thought I would let everyone know.
- Not To WorryI made an order from HP. The next day I received a phone call from Adrian. My caller ID showed 281-514-4740. I didn't trust him so I told him I would rather call the HP number and then he gave me 866-246-0504. He actually gave me all the information about my order including the order number without me telling him. So I trusted him and went on with the verification. He just wanted to verify my last 4 digits of my social security or date of birth. Then he told me that my order has been approved and they were going to send me my packages. After that, I called the HP number 800-BUY-MYHP and talked to one of the representative and I asked if these two numbers are from HP and he said yes. They are from the solutions / fraud department. They just wanted to make sure that it was me who made that order. That person told me that I first tried to purchase my orders but in the billing information I put a different address, the address where I wanted it to be shipped to. So my purchase was declined which it's true. I remember I made that mistake. The second time, I actually put the right info under the billing information which is related to my credit card and then it was good. My purchase was not completely approved and that's why Adrian called me to make sure it was me, the owner of the credit card. So there's nothing to worry about. HP can tell you all about it.

- Larry replies to JenniferI also got a call from this number. It is the HP Fraud center. Someone had made a $200 purchase with my card number. They said they would cancel the charge. I called my card company. They said that I would not be charged the $200, would cancel this card and issue another. I'm holding my breath. Damn, I wish I could find out who sold my card info !!
- MikeGot a call from 281-514-4740 (Texas) the day after placing an order from HP online. They left a message to call 866-246-0504 to verify some order information.
They asked for:
Order number
Name
Billing address and phone number
and Shipping address
No credit card information was requested beyond that.
The order was around $1,400 - so I'm glad that they do verify it before letting it through. I'll probably be getting a call from the bank about it soon as well!- Caller: HP Hewlett Packard

- VeegerSame thing happened to me. I had a message on my answering maching to call 866-246-0504. I Googled and found the information on that number here before I called back. HP answered and said there was a charge for $1160 on my credit card. They did not ask for any information other than my name if I recall. They only asked for an expiration date on the card that was used then they gave me the last four digits of the card that was used. It was my card. I got online and looked at the purchases on the card and there it was. There was one other charge for one dollar that wasn't mine, both charged yesterday.
If I hadn't gotten that message it would have been about 3 weeks before I'd known about the charge, so thank goodness HP has a verification system to check these large purchases. Also, it's nice to be able to Google strange phone numbers now because I almost didn't call back, not knowing if the call was legit. That card will be marked stolen, and it will be a hassle, but not as much as if I hadn't found out for 3 weeks.- Caller: Hewitt Packard
- JennThis is legit - I got a message from Judith, checked my credit card and found other fraudulent charges. Called my cc company, who said a pending charge came in from HP for authorization. Cancelled card and called HP, where I found out someone had placed an order using my cc and billing info. HP's normal procedure is to call and verify if shipping addy is different from billing info. Yay HP!

- DanThis is HP order verification department. If you don't call your order will be delayed for shipping.
- pumpeckLegit as far as I can tell. Contact you credit card company.

- ASMOur phone listed the 281-257 number as the originating call, but the message left said to call the 866 number back. This is a HP customer service number which verifies orders placed. It turns out that my credit card number was stolen so I am glad that these folks are following up on orders. I also spoke with Barbara. The credit card has since been cancelled, and once I get the paperwork from the bank, I will also be filing a report with the police department (recommended by HP and the other company which called to verify another order which had been placed).
