They called telling me I was going to be arrested unless I paid $5000+ for a paid day loan from Cash Partners of America. Said I needed to give them my attorney of record but wouldn't give me information regarding this so called debt. I have received calls from people like this before it's a scam. If you think you have a pay day loan outstanding settle it with the company don't deal with this BS.
Basically if you fill out an online app this is what happens to your files. Someone tries to scam you for money.

There tactics are illegal and I filed a complaint with the FTC.
I think they are operating from outside the country because every time I have received a call such as this it's always an "India" accent.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

PS--Pull your credit report. Your identity may have been stolen. Hackers recently compromised the data of taxpayers in SC and personal identifying information is being sold on the internet black market:

I recived a debt collection call from this number and they stated that I would be in trouble if I did not reply with the amount of money due from a pay day loan that I have not taken out. The gentleman also stated that my Social Security number would be wiped away and I would no longer be a citizen of the United States.

My post tells you what to do. If that does not work, tell them your phone line is being tapped and monitored by the FBI.

I just got a call from this number today.

Everyone please relax- these scammers CAN'T do any of the things they threaten- they have no power to take away your citizenship or affect your social security number in any way.

Several months ago I filled out an online payday loan application.  Dumb. don't do it, ever, that's my advice.

I figured out my finances without getting a loan, but I started getting these calls from a variety of numbers.

Always with an Indian accent, they had my social security number and all my personal information, my work details- all from the form I filled out.  One man actually told me there were police outside my office waiting to arrest me!

It is all lies to scare you into paying.  Don't pay them. Don't fear them.

After a few weeks I stopped getting the calls, but I continue to recieve insurance quotes I didn't ask for, debt consolidation consultations I didn't ask for, etc.  It's clear my information was sold off to the scammers.

Here is what you should do:

    1. Get all three of your credit bureau accounts on security lockdown, your personal info is in danger. Google it if you need to.  The credit bureaus make it easy to lock your accounts fast.
    2. Get an App like 'Mr. Number' if you are getting these calls on a cell phone.  Mr. Number will pick up and hang up on phone numbers you specify. They can't even leave a message, it's awesome.
    3. Remember the only tool these scammers have is talking you into sending them money.  If they can't do that, they have failed. They don't have anything to lose and they know they can't get into trouble- so they'll say anything if they think it will get you to pay them.
    4. Have fun with them if nothing else, like I did- I told him to go ahead, send the police in so I could have them talk to him!  He got really mad and started cursing when I laughed at him.  Tell them, "Interpol is monitoring my line and will be coming for you in a moment!"

I was contacted on November 27th by a "Thomas Reed" indicating I had to return this call right away, and if I didn't, all he could do was wish me "good luck." I called the number given and was greeted with "hello," not a company name or professional greeting. The caller, with a very pronounced Indian or Pakistani accent, introduced himself as "Chuck Davis" of the "Crime and Investigation Department." He had access to my employment history, SSN, and bank account information and quoted it to me, claiming Advance America Cash Advance had filed charges against me for theft by deception, collateral check fraud, and violating federal banking regulations. He demanded payment of $5,487 immediately to "make this all go away."  He refused to divulge any transaction numbers or proof that I had taken out any loans. He then threatened to subpoena me by this Friday, November 30th, to take me to court and/or have me arrested. He even Mirandized me over the phone.  Long story short, the FTC has been notified and I suggest you do the same.  Feel free to call their bluff; they've stolen your identities and if law enforcement does get involved, it's their butts on the line.

These people have been harrassing me for years, last year they actually called my work, all day long one call after another.  I finally had to contact the police and they contacted the individual to stop calling, made it even worse they continued to call, and actually did something to my phone that I had to get another phone, never seen anything like it.  The best advise I got was from our loss prevention department at work because there was another associate in another store going through the same thing, and what was interesting was we where both going through a bankruptcy at that time, dont know if that may be a link, but any way they told me to go buy a whistle, when they called let them talk to make sure it was the same individuals, then take the whistle and blow as hard as you can into the phone, do that a few times and they might get the message.  It has been quite for about a year, and recently they started again with the phone calls, guess I will go out and get that whistle again.....lol

305-455-9469 is the number Sebastian Cooper called me from this morning. My story is similar to the others on this site. I had applied for a PayDay loan, but did not accept any of the offers. I spent all morning at my bank looking for this deposit that supposedly went into my account, (amount and date unspecified by this Cooper guy), because he said if you fill out the application that is authorization to deposit into your account. I'm pretty sure I would notice a deposit in my account, but double-checked just to make sure. I would never have verified this was a fraud if I hadn't found this site. Thank you all for your postings! I have contacted the FTC and verified this IS a fraud!
