- RS in UtahI received the same call today from Linda Smith in Utah 435-919-3858. She was calling for my husband. Stating he owed money and he was going to be late for civil court, saying he would be arrested if he didn't show. She said for me to call or have him call their legal department 866-289-6551 and give them the case number. I kept asking her questions as to what he owed and what company it is, she wouldn't answer any of my questions. I refuse to call anyone because I know it's a scam thanks to those who posted here. :)

- T in MichiganSomeone called my neighbor asking for my first name. He left his name as John Lewis and the phone number 866-289-6551 and said it was about a civil complaint. If there was a civil complaint they would have to have my name. This has to be a scam.

- Big Jim| 1 replyThey may/may not be a collection agency pursuing a bill that you may/may not owe, but in any case, they are quite good at sounding like legitimate court officials, when in actuality they're no more significant than a flea on a dog's ass.

- WD IdahoBeen dealing with the same thing everyone else posted about today. Except today, I started calling the "account manager" Blake Westmark, over and over today asking questions about my account. He gave me a fake civil court number and when I called him to tell him the case number did not exist in the superior, district nor civil court where I live, he changed his story and said it was their account number. I called him again to tell him the CC company does not have my name in their system and he argued with me about it. I then called the number and talked to someone else about my "account" and was placed on hold. I then hung up and about 10 minutes, Blake called me back (on a blocked number) threatening to make a harassment complaint against me! He told me to NEVER call his number again! I guess they don't like people calling them and bugging them about fraudulent things all the time...... I'm sure Blake would love to hear from all of you....

- mg01 replies to Ah1399We got a call from a lady that said they were going to come to our home tomorrow. She could not give any info about why but that we should call the above number "Issuing Agents Office". To see what they had to say I called the number and spoke with 2 ladies, one named Jennifer, who got upset when I started telling about the laws regarding collections in my state and then hung up on me because I was being irate. My wife who was sitting 5 feet from me knew I wasn't irate, but that they were just using that excuse to hang up on me. These people are not only rude but are breaking the law because by federal law they are required to identify themselves clearly and that they are attempting to collect a debt which didn't happen until I called their 866 number.
- EG in NH| 1 replyI received a call, giving me a case # saying my daughter was overdrawn at TD bank, said a summons was being issued for court, but they could stop it by Dec 11 only if I paid what she owed, $277.14. But now they are calling on a new# 323 638 1235 california, beware it's a scam. My daughter is out of state and owes no money to TD bank. These people are clever, beware!!

- BigA replies to EG in NHThis is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

I have been receiving calls from 866-289-6551 from someone who claims to represent a process server. The want me to verify my address and last 4 of my social. The info that they have is correct. They claim it is about pending legal action but refuse to give any further info. They have contacted my home, job and as well as a neighbor and claim to be based in Beverly Hills, CA. Has anyone actually verified their info with them and found out what the scam really is?
- Jim replies to Big JimBe assured they are NOT a Collection Agency. They ARE scammers.
- Hudson County, NJWas asked to call 866-289-6551 by Linda Smith from (646) 650-3773. Mixture of "relative's name - civil case - legal department - courtesy call - county process server" SCAM. Thanks for others' notes!

- MrsThis number called my job on Dec 10th and left a message saying that if I don't call them back to this number they were going to file a law suit against me. I told them really I work for the courts and he said congratulations! He was EXTREMELY rude! And wanted me to pay on something without me seeing some type of document. They have called me from several different numbers at all times! He didn't even identified himself so I asked where are you calling from ? He said he was a mediator!! (Mind you NO MEDIATOR calls people SPECIALLY prior to a law suit being filed!) and he said his name was Jarred Ruiz... And that they only work from 8 to 7 so I called after 7 pm and a girl answered and said "litigation department" but no company name or anything!
