who is calling me from this number?

This is the Visa fraud division for Commerce Bank.  It's legit.  If you're wary (I was!), call Commerce Bank first, and they will transfer you.

Do not listen to the above poster!!! This is a scam scam scam! Commerce Bank and I had a conference call with this number and determined that this is all fraud.

Rec'd a voice mail asking to return a call to this number with my "account info ready." I called Commerce Bank's main customer service number, and they confirmed that they do not have a separate "fraud prevention" number, therefore confirming this is a scam.

I received a call yesterday. Jessica left a voice mail. I called Commerce Customer Service to verify the number. They said that they DO have a Commerce Bank Fraud Prevention Service through VISA and the cust. serv. rep. verified that the number Jessica gave in the voice mail is valid. I have been traveling around a bit lately, so I figured my purchases had been flagged. WRONG. It turns out that someone has been trying to use a fake card with my card number to make purchases in Florida (I haven't been anywhere near Florida in years). They attempted a $211.21 purchase at Wal-Mart (I don't EVER shop there) and an unknown amount at a gas station. Luckily, both purchases were denied. I am so glad I called because I was VERY suspicious of the voice mail and almost didn't check it out. If you get a call from this number, call Commerce Bank yourself to check it out. You will see that it is valid.

I got a voice mail asking me to call this number and I was suspicious too. I called the number and listened up until the point where it asked me to enter my CC number. I called Commerce Bank's main phone number, listed on their website as 888-751-9000, and they gave me a pat on the head for being an alert little consumer, then transferred me over to their fraud prevention department, which seemed to be the same recording/prompt system as on the number that'd been left on my voice mail. I went ahead and used the system. It asks you to enter CC number, billing zip, and last 4 of SSN. Then it reads off a bunch of recent authorizations to you and asks you to confirm they were valid purchases. All of mine were, just triggered I guess by a bunch of shopping/traveling I have been doing lately. This is legit.

Matt, I don't know who you spoke to but this is a valid number. First, I called Commerce. They referred me to the phone number. It's Commerce Bank's Fraud dept. We verified a few transactions and all is well.

I received a phone call from someone from this number today. I called Commerce Bank and they were not familiar with this number.

I received a call claiming to be from Commerce Bank/VISA Fraud Prevention.  The first time I called, I was asked to enter my 16 digit credit card number.  I opted to speak directly with customer service instead.  The service technician asked for my last name, first name, first part of my address (he read off the rest of it), my zip code, and part (not all) of my SSN.

He then read off the last 3 transactions (all for my husband's upcoming birthday, and all took place ONLINE within the last 3 hours).  

I confirmed the transactions were legitimate, and went on my merry way.

I received a message on my ans machine asking to call this number concerning a possible fraud on my Commerce Visa Debit card the strange thing was my wife had a message too she has a separate account with Commerce too so I was a bit suspicious but called anyway  an automated voice started asking questions but I choose the O to speak to a real person. The woman I spoke to asked me to verify my zip code then told me the street I lived  but asked me the address then read me the first three numbers of my SS and asked for the next two or last four after confirming who I was she asked me to verify every transaction I had over the past two weeks and being Christmas there were a lot she read them to me and I confirmed the purchases. Now if this was a fraud and they knew this much about me why would they need me to call them and draw attention to them. She also gave me the number to Commerce Bank 888-751-9000 to confirm when I told her I was on this site and a couple of posts said this is a scam. My wife is out of the country so she won't be able to call until later but I doubt if this is a fraud. I mean what would they gain by speaking to us?

I have just had this same call regarding credit card transactions.  What they didn't know is this card was stolen and already cancelled. Never give out anything other than the last four digits of you SSN.  NO legitimate company will ever ask you to do this.  Commerce Bank has verified this was a fraudulent charge.

Just call the commerce hotline if your afraid this is a scam. I got this call too and and just called the commerce hotline and they took care of me there. They said this number is legit but i'd rather call them directly.

I received a call in the morning about two transactions I attempted to make last night.  I called Commerce Bank's main customer service number.  They confirmed that 866 299 0501 is legitimate, and they then transferred me over.  If you received such a call, get a call back number and call them back before confirming ANY information, even if the name/number show up "correctly" on your Caller ID.  REMEMBER, CALLER ID SPOOFING ALLOWS A FRAUD ARTIST TO MAKE SOMEONE ELSE'S NUMBER AND NAME SHOW UP ON YOUR CALLER ID.  Get the number, verify it, then call back.  By the way, they did NOT ask me to give them my card number, security code or any other info.  They just confirmed three partial pieces of information.

I received a voicemail from this number asking for a person who was not me, about a card (last for digits) that was not my card, asking to verify some charges.  After reading this site, it looked legitimate, and I wanted to somebody a favor by letting them know they had the wrong number.  I called.  No funny business.  But if they were smart, they would publish this number on their web site to take the uncertainty out of it.

This is legitimate. If they call you and you don't want to call back, as someone advised below, call Commerce and have them transfer you over. They'll do it, and they'll even confirm that the number is theirs. I'm not sure what planet some of these people are on--what do you gain by convincing people not to call VISA Fraud Protection? (Maybe they're the people using your cards fraudulently and don't want you to find out?)

Anyway, it's all good. They helped me catch my ID being stolen minutes after it happened.

the reps name was amy from falcon group, she knew the first 3 digits of my ss#, address, and recent transactions. This is legitimate. Whoever got a hold of my card number used it in oviedo, florida and philadelphia,pa.

its not a scam, commerce does have a seperate company that handles debit card fraud only.

Not legit!  I got this call after buying a substantial purchase.  I thought the call was odd and ran the number in google and found this site.  I called TD (commerce) and they said that they did not flag my account or inform visa of anything.  I am still nervous though because when the "visa" people called they knew the last 4 digits on my card number.

I received a phone call from this number and opted to call Commerce/TD directly. I brought up my online history and there were two fraudulent charges on my account. Very legitimate, but going through TD customer service is just as easy and seems much less sketchy.

I got a message on my voice mail asking for verification of recent card activity. After checking the comments on this site [for which I'm very grateful], I returned the call. The person who answered identified himself as a rep of TD Bank's Visa Fraud Division. He asked me to confirm some personal info, then asked for the last 4 digits of my SS#, which I gave. The rep then asked me to confirm an on-line purchase I'd made 20 minutes earlier. It was champagne sent as a gift to another address, so their suspicions were understandable. After I said it was valid, he told me I could now continue to use my card -- the implication being that had I not called, my card would have been temporarily suspended.
