My mother and I have received about 20 calls from this company in relation to a debt allegedly owed by a family member. It has reached the level of harassment. The most recent call insinuated that this family member had been in some sort of an accident. Each time they threaten to file a lawsuit against her if we do not call them back.

I'm not certain if this is a scam or just a particularly low-life debt collector. I've called them, and they refuse to provide their mailing address and apparently everyone who answers the phone is a "senior legal analyst". Ha!

Some suggestions for others who have received these threatening phone calls:

1) They have made numerous FDCPA violations, including threatening to file a lawsuit without any intent to do so (seriously, it takes them 6 months to file a lawsuit?) and discussing personal information with other people. I have urged this family  member to contact a consumer attorney to file a lawsuit. You should do the same. Keep track of every conversation. Record them if it's legal in your state. Then contact an FDCPA attorney.
2) I have filed complaints with the FTC, CFPB and my state's attorney general's office, and I urge you to do the same.

Good advice.  The only other thing you may want to try is a call blocker.  Your callers are obvious scammers, since they refuse to identify themselves or give a mailing address (where you could send a cease and desist letter).

They just called and the call back number was a an 866 number. They did call from the area code I'm in. But out of king county. Never lived out there. Read the call back number is some place In india

This number has been harassing me at work and now on my cell phone this is a scam and they just want money I called them back and told them if they keep calling I was going to file a police report it is so sad that people fall for this scam

I received a call from a local cellular number, 239-842-8288 (likely spoofed), claiming to be looking for my father as a contact for a supposed family member. When my mother told them she had no idea who it was they hung up only to call back moments later looking for me as well and my ex-wife from ten years ago. I called 1-866-299-2480 back and the line picks up as "Law Office of Atlantic" and must hold for an operator.

The "case worker" I spoke to told me the prior call I received was from "The State of Florida Location Services" looking for this person's legal relatives as medical contacts. I told her I found it odd that a state agency was using a cell# that refused to pick up return calls and that their 866# is listed on scam reporting sites online. She immediately advised me this number would be taken off their call list and then had the balls to ask me if there were any other numbers I would like not to be called at.... Uh no I don't think I will fall for that crap thank you.

I was hung up on. No surprise really since the first observation I made was that she had a very bad southern accent and spoke as a clearly uneducated person which I highly doubt a real law office would employ as an operator. Second observation I made is that nowhere on the internet is there a listing for Atlantic Litigation Services, law offices, etc. These people really need to get a life and stop wasting mine. (it was fun catching morons and venting online about them though!)

Message on my phone  from a Cara (or Kiara) Smith that Case # 153752 s being filed in Beauregard Parish; and will become a matter of public record and there is an active order to find my location.  Also stated that they were unable to contact me by phone which  leaves them with no other option but to contact my direct supervisor to locate me at my job.  Says I have one legal right to  contact the litigation office handling this case at 866-299-2480 today before it is filed .    I have not lived in Beauregard Parish in about 14 years and  I have not worked in over 10 years.

I tried to block their numbers however this caused my family members,including my ex husband, to receive these horrible calls.  I do not know what they want. They will not provide me with any info other that they are going to file a law suit. I filed a complaint with our Attorney General.

They're attempting to scare you into paying - they want your money.  Hence calling to say they're going to file a lawsuit.  It's illegal to threaten to sue you (unless the company actually intends to sue).  It's illegal to refuse to identify themselves and send the mandatory dunning letter within five days of their initial call per the FDCPA.  It's illegal to continue to harass, call, and disclose information to third parties.  Keep blocking their calls and alert your family members that this is nothing more than a scam attempt.
