Message left says they are from a student loan center notifying me of how to get student loan forgiveness.  Just wanted to check if it is a legitimate number or company

Wouldn't you think a legitmate company would actually identify themselves instead of simply saying they're "from a student loan center"?

They're a scam. They make students pay for something that is otherwise free. They're also misleading - never giving the actual name of the group. The one I spoke with said he worked directly with the federal government. They do not.

I received the exact same voicemail previous complaints indicating I was eligible for student loan forgiveness if I just completed some application with them with identical “reference number 7929243” . I know for a fact my student loans are not eligible for forgiveness so this is BS.

From what I've heard these people charge fees to unsuccessfully apply for "forgiveness" which is almost never granted. I wouldn't waste my time.

Said they checked and found I am eligible for Student Loan forbearance but did not complete the paper work. I am over 70 years old, and went into the military right after high school and never took out a student loan in my life. Why would I even start forbearance paper work.

I received a voicemail without there being any direct phone call. The message was from a male voice that did not sound automated, but did sound rehearsed and pre-recorded with no nuance that still shows up in regular telemarketing speech. The message in full was: “[long, automated pause] Hi this is Paul Avery from student loan center. We wanted to remind you that your COVID-19 emergency forbearance will be ending September 30, 2021. Be aware that your loans will resume automatically with the standard repayment rate. Our records indicate you are eligible for student loan forgiveness programs but never completed the required documents. If you want to proceed with the application we need to speak with you today at 866-299-3753 with your provided reference number 792-9243…”
