Student loan scam - Left a message: Stephani Newman calling about my federal student loan.  Interesting, I graduated from college over 40 years ago and I have no student loans.

Called about student loan. I'm not even in college

My kid's student loan was approved just a few days ago and now I'm getting calls from Stephanie Newman. That's frightening. Quickly reinforced scammer education with my kid.

Likewise,  I've received about 4 calls from a Stephanie Newman --even providing a "reference number" to make it sound legit.   The message does not say where she is calling from.     We co-signed on our granddaughter's student loan, and our granddaughter gave us the heads-up that this is a scam.

Got a call today, 8/20/19, from 402.382.4338, about a Federal Student Loan in default.  Left name of Stephanie Newman. Did not ask for a specific person, Gave a callback number of 1.866.9229 and a referance number. My wife called the 866 number and a person answered, wife told her she was returning a call about a student loan another person came on the line and had a heavy Indian accent. Wife told the person that they were gong to be reported to the Federal Government, for some reason she was cut off. She called back and she got a recording
