- Donna S.| 4 repliesThey called my home phone with a blocked number that showed up as private claiming to be calling from the state processing dept and that they needed to serve me with a summons for civil court for writing bad checks. They left this number to contact the plaintiff and when I called them number it was for a company called Continental.
- Caller: State processing department
- Donna S. replies to Donna S.| 1 replythey also threatened that if I did not take action and call them back that the matter was currently residing in civil court but that it would be moved to criminal court.
- Robert RI talked to a Mr. Cox @ext 621 and he sd the same thing that Donna S. posted 1st they sd it was with the civil court in TN. So I called the court and they had nothing @all under my name in civil or criminal court. I haven't had a checking acount to write bad checks from since 2002. So this is either a scam or fraud. anyone know what the deal with this place is please email me Dacylee@yahoo.com

- DYeah they keep calling for my ex from different numbers. I am so sick of it she has really made it terrible to even have a home phone. I know it's a Scam but it's painful and we haven't been together in 2 + years. I shouldn't have to change my number for this trap. The stupid person on the other end said we're calling from the state of DC. Hehehehe so I said when did DC become a state? Long pause until I said stop calling my house harassing for BS!

- Resident47This "hot check" garbage is not a criminal matter anyway, Donna. As others have found, it won't be in civil court either. Their illegal tactics pretty much indicate a lack of proof of claim. They sound a lot like the overseas fake payday loan thugs but I saw one report suggesting a Florida address. The latter you can sue, if they can be found and cornered.

http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpajump.shtm - anonymous replies to Donna S.There is no such thing as the "state processing dept." If you ever get a summons, it'll be certified mail or in person and you'll never get a phone call to warn you a summons is imminent for you might flee. This is a version of the you-have-committed-a-crime extortion scam and you are being...
1. charged with fraud or passing bad checks or embezzlement or
2. served with a court summons or arrest warrant or bench warrant or whatever or
3. located in preparation to being served or for a lawsuit or to be arrested or
4. sued for cable TV usage that you've been stealing for years or
5. whatever stupid crap reasons they will think up next.
And you have to...
1. call back with your case number or
2. confirm your address or SSN or whatever so you can be served or your papers can be processed or
3. pay $895 now to avoid paying $5,000 in court or
4. whatever stupid crap reasons they will think up next.
Beware extortion scams come in many flavors and they constantly evolve to stay one step ahead of the law.

The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Never do what they tell you to do but report them to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate. - TRISH replies to Donna S.I just received a call 3 times saying they are coming to my work place to serve me with papers from a payday loan from 2004 and said the loan was for 300 and they are collecting 600 dollars.
They said the name of the company was Continental. I looked at my credit report call an old debt I owed and the company that I owed the debt to said they don't take people to court or serve clients with court papers for matters like this...
They also said if you pay now we will stop the summons from coming in your work place within 20min... - scresident321My in-laws are still receiving these calls for me and my husband and we haven't even lived in the same state for almost 5 years.
Jackalynn from "SC Legal Department" left a message for me to call her back at 866-384-5769. I doubt very likely that the legal department of any state would be calling to "collect" a debt.- Call type: Debt collector
- meI got a call from the same number I turned it into my bank to make sure my accounts was safe and nothing is being take out with out me approving them first, now I am going to turn them in for calling my phone and leaving this message which I kept and the bank is going to research the company and see who and were they are

- Whitney HMy husband got a call on his cell and at work from Mr. Cox saying he was with a law firm called Continental. They were trying to collect on two accounts, $300.00 each that were acquired in 2008 and were never paid due to "insufficient funds." When I personally called back to verify the information, Mr. Cox (ext 621) kept referring to a process server being en route to serve my husband with court papers. Also, that a payment had to be made TODAY. He was very insistent. I checked my husband's credit report and neither the "original" creditors nor Continental were present. I called back the next day and asked Mr. Cox for documentation that the debt belonged to my husband. He immediately transferred me to his supervisor "Mr. Grahm" (ext 614) and he rambled on with legal jargon and claimed to be the prosecuting attorney as well. They refused to mail anything to my house, but they could email a letter of intent once a payment arrangement was made. I fully believe this is a scam.

- MikeI received the exact same thing from a gentleman by the name of John Davis at ext. 604, yet his voicemail says John Combs. I was threatened with the same thing and actually fell for it and gave processed a check by phone for $300.00 on Sept. 14th. Red flags went up when 2 weeks later, nothing had been taken out of our account yet. I have heard that they try to find out when you are getting paid and than they hit your account on your paydate for as much as they can. My wife and I cancelled our accounts and changed our banking information. The number that I was receiving the calls from was 888-283-5704

- Mjp1017| 1 replyJust got a call from Kimberly Ross saying she was with State Summons Division. I outright asked her if she was with the State of WI and she said yes. BS!
She told me I had to call 888-754-0672. I did though I knew it was a scam. They said it was Continental and wanted me to pay $420. They threatened to call my HR department and did. I called the FTC and reported it under FTC# 36316679- Caller: Continental
- Wayne replies to Mjp1017Don't let these jerks intimidate you. They called me on 4/23/12 and said papers were going to be served on me at my home or job. They identified themselves as a law group. I asked for their bar number with which they are licensed to practice. They would not provide it or any attorney's names in the group. I then contacted the Arizona Bar Association who told me there is no group under the name of Continental licensed to practice. I then called the State Attorney's office and the Police Department in Phoenix, AZ to report the scam. I called Continental back and informed them that papers may be served on them in the future. They were not too happy and their true nature "be come out." They be called me names they be scared some little cracker done turned them in.

- FrustrationI recently received a call at my job from a John Davis threatening to serve me a summons for unpaid debt. At first I spoke to him calmly and explained that I did not owe any debt. He was persistant and nasty so I became extremely angry and began to speak to him a a strong tone. He threatened to call my job and he did. He was transfered over to security and they called me to ask if I knew anything about this matter and I told them that he called me and threatened to come with a sheriff and serve me papers. My job being as understanding as they are told me that they would never let anyone come to my job to serve any papers. After investigating I found that they are a fraud. I can not wait to speak with this Joh Davis again. I filed a police report and a report with the FTC. I have my lawyer ready for action in case this gets out of hand. they called me from 18553135803.
They also gave me a secruity number and address that was incorrect but I told them yes that's where I reside. LOL So much for that information.- Caller: Continental

- ConsumerThey called me using the number 888-568-6034 left a voicemail on cell phone/home phone stating they had a summons. I did call them back, when I started asking questions about where they were located, what court was the paperwork against me filed Mr. Cox started yelling at me. NO ONE serving a summoms will give you any warning that your about to get served. Because they don't want you to dodge them, THEY CANNOT set a court date until you have been OFFICIALLY served.
What you can do:
File a complaint with the Federal Trade Comm. That's the only way to make sure they stop doing this to you and others.

They gave knew all my maiden name my prior married name and my new married name they knew the my parents and even my brothers full name. they never stated the reason as to why I was in trouble but that I needed to call back as soon as possible. I have never done anything wrong and I called the number back but I guess it was after hours. has anyone received a call like this from this number
- P Yaley replies to Tara QYes, I have recieved a this same call this morning and let them know I have been divorced from my ex for 8yrs now and remarried. - David| 1 replyI received a call at work about 6 months ago from a woman who said she was a process server from "Continental legal network", and she going to serve me with court papers(did not actually use the word summons) at work in an hour unless I called this number and resolved the issue. I sensed a scam and just said "O.K." and hung up. No one ever showed. The following day she called my boss and asked what the company policy was concerning serving "court papers" at work. I was called into his office and I explained what was going on. He was understanding and supportive, however she starting calling our corporate office with the same questions and accusations. I was interviewing for a promotion at the time and didn't want this to interfere with that, so I decided to pay them to shut them up(it was only $330). I figured I would deal with them later. Well, it's later and I got the promotion. I'm asking anyone here if you have any ideas on how I can deal with them/F*** them up?
