- zena replies to d| 1 replyWells Fargo Home Mortgage
- yup replies to zenaapparently this company does verification for Wells Fargo...
- Sue| 3 repliesThey claim to be from Wells Fargo, but a contact at Wells Fargo says they have never heard of them. They claim to be seeking employment verification, but when asked for which employee, they are unable to give a legitimate employee name. It appears to me this is either a phishing scam or perhaps a front for some collection agency.
- Jessica replies to SueThis is not a scam or phishing or even a collection agency it is wells fargo home mortgage and all of their joint venture companies that provide mortgage loans. They verify employment, they are unable to look up the information without a request number unless you know the name of the borrower.
- DOCVERIFICATIONS OF EMPLOYMENT. HOW IS IT A SCAM WHEN THEY HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS VERIFY WHAT THEY HAVE?!?
- DocThis is for people trying to get home loans or lower rates on thier mortgages. They go through a mortgage specialist and an underwriter. they can't just take the borrower's word he has worked and some place for 5 years and he makes enough money to cover the loan. Haven't we learned our lesson about that already???
- Chris replies to Sue| 1 replyThe number goes to a call center that does Employment Verifications for WFHM. Because a "contact" at WF doesn't know about them doesn't mean anything. WF is a huge company (I know, I used to work in their WFF Retail collections department) with many different departments and branches.
If you ask them for the name of the employee they are trying to verify they won't tell you unless you are the person who can help them. This is to protect the privacy of your employee from nosy secretaries who want to know who is getting a home loan. - One with the world replies to ChrisChris and Jessica - sure sounds like you know what your talking about - Do you work at 866-387-5362?
- MikeyI work there and do VOE's all day, no scam just a job to pay the bills.
- MargI also work there, hey mikey, do i know you?

- HR SecurityIf they cannot tell you the name of the person they are calling about, then they might as well be a scam. Anyone who volunteers information without some professional consideration in this day of identify theft is asking to be robbed. If WF is conducting these calls, they should say who they are calling about along with the reference and call back number, OR keep the reference and call back number secret TOO. Someone 'posting a phone' will put up with this kind of call because they are ripping off the bank, but real HR staff should have their guard up for anyone calling with such a lame request for internal and/or the personnel's identity information. A scammer will adopt this ill excuse for proper verification techniques the moment forums like this sign off on opening information to such calls.
- HR SecurityIn Addition, Wells Fargo should be using pay stubs, employment offer letters, W4's, W2's, and I-9's to document employment. Personnel should tell HR that they have applied for a mortgage and request HR discuss their information with any mystery caller who happens to call. Then, internal company authorization to disclose HR information to anyone calling should be sought and granted.
- JessicaYes, I do work there. To reply to HR Security. We do have all of that information. However, we do still need to have the information verified by a team member from Human Resources/Payroll or an administrator/owner etc. To be able to close on a mortgage loan, we have to have a verification letter and/or Fannie Mae form verifying the amounts on the w2's. We have employers all of the time that state that the borrower must intiate the VOE, this is all up to your company on how secure you are. We keep our security by providing you with a request number rather than the borrowers name to protect them from any kind of security issues, we aren't just going to give anyone that calls the borrowers SSN/Name/Information. You call in, we ask for the request number, then we ask you what company you are calling from. If you say something that is different than what we have we will ask if you are affiliated with the company listed on our screens. If not, you are't getting any further with us.

- I am the person that answers the phoneJessica called claiming to be from Wells Fargo.
She asked for the HR department to verify employment for a Mortgage approval. When I asked, she even gave me the name of an employee. The PROBLEM is that she said that this employee gave them my number. This must be FALSE because I am in a temporary facility! Nobody trying to get a mortgage would use this number!! The red flag is flying high.- Caller: Wells Fargo
- just anotherI received a call today and the person left a message. When I tried to call back all I'm getting is dead air and then it hangs up. I have called 4 times now and if they want verification they will have to call back. I don't have time to keep calling a number that doesn't even ring........
- frustratedThese guys called my office number for employment verification , they informed that they would have to speak to the HR for that and gave them the number for human resources , these dumb morons did not call the HR and now I am risking losing my lock-in date
- Caller: wells fargo
- OperatorBThey do indeed appear to be legitimate.
However, they are incredibly impatient and expect results within minutes of their request and harass people until they get it.They want a particular answer to a particular question that may take a few calls between this facility and headquarters. This takes time and people will have to make decisions.
They are not impressing anyone at this company. They appear to forget that we do not work for Wells Fargo.- Caller: Wells Fargo Home Mortgage
- JLMThis # is legit. They called my emplolyer less than 24 hours after my loan went into underwriting. And I'm willing to bet that ALL mortgage lenders do VOE the same way, just with different companies.
Advice to all of the naysayers - if you're so adamant that this is a "scam" then just don't return the call. I'm sure your employees that are looking to get a loan or refinance their house will be thrilled that YOU are the sole reason for holding up the already painstaking loan process. Glad I don't work for you.- Caller: Wells Fargo Home Mortgage
