No, it is likely not a scam. You appeared either on a list generated by small business reports, personal accounting records, or etc. from a larger organization who hand this info down to subsidiary investing arms. You received what is called a "cold call" by a private firm--probably a small partnership--who is trying to generate a client list. If you don't call back interested you will not likely hear from them again and if you do, ask to speak with a broker and tell them to mail or fax their info so you can research the firm. Cold calling is the only way these companies can generate a swing to take down large chunks of shares and affect the market so you are part of the numbers game. Do your homework on them but something about your financial history piqued their interest in you as a potential asset with whom they can develop a relationship. Hope that helps...

that number belongs to First Republic not American Republic... the line belongs to Dan Stewart (a broker) and the call was likely made from a trainee working his cold call team. You can look them up on http://www.firstrepublic.com/ and on the nsad list... They are very legit and a large bank. They aren't taking down large chunks of shares btw, they work on commission not block resale.

yo check bloomberg news and even their own site... they have been given a bid from merryill lynch is trying to acquire them. That is why they are on the scramble to pack in clients--they want to up their worth for the bid which is currently close to 2 billion usd.
