    No one is given a heads up they'll be served.  The process server just shows up, unannounced.  If you had committed a crime, the cops would have already shown up at your house - and they, also, do not announce when they'll arrive.

    Debt is civil, not criminal, so even if you've defaulted on a loan, it's not a crime.  Your callers are likely scammers, calling and trying to scare people into paying some bogus debt.  As an FYI, no one should pay any caller who refuses to MAIL a debt validation letter showing they owe a debt and the caller has the legal right to collect said debt. Refusal to mail this DV letter is a violation of federal law.

    Repeated phones calls from this number stating that if I don't get a stand down order they will issue a bench warrant for my arrest for a criminal case.    When I called back, it sounds like Walker and Associates.  Josh is the person who leaves the messages.

    Repeat phone calls from this number; didn't leave a name but it's a male caller.  Left message with my mom first, then called my son's phone (who is 12 years old!) stating a bench warrant will be issued if I don't respond to a subpeona.  He uses legal jargon as a scare tactic.... he used the words "warrant", "arrest", "subpeona" and "stand down order".  What a joke.

    yeah its a joke. I got the call too. He mentioned an address I use to live at over 17 years ago. It is amazing what you can find on google. If anyone ever claims you owe a debt then by law they must mail you a debt validation letter which should also state they are licensed to collect. If not, they are bogus and fake.

    Received several phone calls from this number. Comes up NO CALLER ID. They have stated they are going to serve me a subpeona and I had to be available at my home between 5-6 pm, and if I wasn't there, it would cost me $75. First, paperwork is served by the Sheriff, not a private person from a company; second, they don't give you notice, they just show up; third, it doesn't cost the person who is being served anything, the filing party pays any court costs; also, the county courthouse will have public record of any cases pending against someone. When I refused to give the company rep, Gia, my social security number, she became enraged, stating I "owed her" the info. When I told her I didn't OWE her anything, she became even angrier. I advised her to mail me the account info and I would look at it to see if it was even mine (which I know it isn't). She told me to f*** off and called me a horrible name and hung up on me.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Received call from man (couldn't make out his name) from an unknown number today at 3:45. Referred to a docket number and said I should call 866-469-6866 for more info. Said I should be home between 5 & 6 tomorrow and should be able to provide two forms of ID. He said the same thing on Tuesday morning, that he would come on Wednesday between 3 & 4. No one ever showed up. I know these are shady collectors trying to scare people into paying. With whom should I file the complaint? What court should I check with to make sure there is no suit against me?

    Scam, they try to act like they are with the police and courts. Very against the law, as debt is civil not criminal. File a claim with the FTC as these collection practices are illegal. Bunch of clowns that work for this company!

    Received this call today, referencing a person I didn't even know.  The caller stated to be calling to inform the person about  a "criminal case".  As soon as this idiot read the "case number" I knew that it was like some third party collection agency.  I'm very familiar with consumer rights under the FDCPA and TCPA and was just floored that they would try this type of tactic to get someone to call them back.

    My only disappointment was that the call wasn't actually for me. I would have loved to have picked up my phone and contacted my attorney to file against them next week. An easy $1000 for me and some easy money for me.

    Listen, "Justin", you half wit, if you're going to violate the FDCPA at least the sense that God gave a goose to make the case number believable.  Calling about a "bench warrant" LMAO! Good one....what a clown.

    Your local court.  In California we call them Superior Court.   Major court for the county.

    Fraudulent or Zombie Debt Collectors—Things to Know

    If you have received a call stating:

    1. You have defrauded a financial institution
    2. You owe an unpaid payday loan
    3. You have a warrant due to an unpaid loan
    5. You will receive a court summons
    6.  Authorities are coming to arrest you
    7.  Anything similar to above,
     a.   Do not give them any information or verify any information for them
     b.   Tell them you know they are a scam operating illegally and that you are   filing a complaint with the  appropriate authorities
    * File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage     http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
    * File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in
    The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency).    [abstracted from another site]
