"UNC Hospital"

I answer the phone, no one there just a dead line, will add to blocked numbers.

TOG Customer Service, called them and voiced my displeasure with their robo calling.  I asked them to remove my name from their calling list, or I would block the number.  I was told "no problem, she said good day."  There was no mention of the reason for calling me in the first place.

Just verified with UNC hospital that this is a scam!!!  Representing themselves as T.O.G. collection agency for the hospital & tried to get me to set up a payment plan & make immediate payment today.  After speaking with hospital & learning our acct is not in arrears & there is no such agency representing them - I called them back & threatened to report fraud.  They in turn said they would delete my number immediately!

It is a scam. When the lady answered she  ask was  my name SWilliams so she had my cell phone number in her database to know who I was with number id. She is not a representative of UNC Hospital and I was very unset she wanted my date of birth and so on. I told her I knew she did not work for UNC Hospitals and she said she would remove my number from the call list.

This number has been calling me every business day every two hours for about a week.  I don't answer 800 numbers. I DO have accounts with UNC but I'm not in arrears or anywhere near collections.  HOW DID THEY GET MY NUMBER though???  If this is a scam, then did they actually get my number from UNC?  How exactly are they linked?  I'm going to answer the call and write another post.  Then I'm going to try to get hold of SOMEONE at UNC and find out if they know the company/number/whatever.  And then try to find out how it happened and what UNC is going to do to STOP these calls!  KQ

They had a lot of HIPAA information which a bill collector should not have. This appears to be a HIPAA security failure inside UNC Hospital.

Report any calls by these characters to the Office of Civil Rights under HHS.

I have had multiple calls as well! They never leave a message, therefore I do not return calls to 800 #'s either. If it is legit, they can leave a message or mail me a letter. If they have your cell number, they most likely have your address!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER AND I CONTACTED UNC 919-966-1234 TO VERIFY THAT T.O.G CUTOMER SERVICE OFFICE MAKE CALLS ON THEIR BEHALF AND THEY SAID YES. T.O.G. STANDS FOR THE OUTSOURCE GROUP, WHO IS CONTRACTED TO GIVE CALLS REGARDING UNC HOSPITAL BILLS. I SPOKE WITH A REP. NAME NICHOLE. REALLY NICE GAL.

Do have some medical services at UNC.  Do NOT have any bills in arrears as far as I know.  I am calling UNC Patient Services tomorrow to complain.  They did have a contract company in the past that wanted a signed authority to handle my application for public medical insurance.  I already know I don't qualify based on income so I consider this a scam company that has some contacts out of the country that they did a contract with.  Never give out confidential information on the phone!

Me again.  The Outsource Group is a company that is given confidential medical information of customers at UNC Hospitals without a written release allowing them to have this information.  

They act like they are "providing a public service" to patients who do not have insurance.  I was on Charity Care for a while and when I lost my Charity Care, UNC forwarded my information to this company.  From what I understand, they have lawsuits pending in other states besides NC because they have bullied sick people that are in the ICU to sign over "medical power of attorney" under the guise of "helping you apply for medical assistance".

In short, what they do is they will get a flat fee for every client of UNC that is signed up for Medical Assistance, Medicare or any other form of public assistance.  The really crappy thing about it is that they are ALSO part of a collections agency that has some shady connections to a business in INDIA.  So, if you do talk to a human of theirs, don't expect to understand their English.  What they are doing does violate HIPAA laws, unless they have a specific clause somewhere in the paperwork (that we all must probably admit we don't read verbatim) that they make you sign while you are in extreme distress at their Emergency Room!

From what I understand if you sign their "legal paperwork" from these contractors while at the Hospital, then they also get access to your bank statements and all other assets and they can garnish wages, etc.  Again, highly suspicious behavior for a supposedly legitimate affiliate of the UNC Healthcare system.
