On further investigation this is some kind of data base like an address book that you can add your name to it is not mandatory and could be used for identity thieves not for me.

    Dr. Campbell
I'm a Computer Science professor and I too received a postcard from  "The American Legion Dept. of Florida"
Their Website is:   https://www.floridalegion.org/member-verification-post-cards-emails/       Basically, the deal is as follows (quoted from their website).... "I received an email/postcard/phone call from a company asking for my personal information. They said they were working on a directory for The American Legion, Department of Florida. Is this a legitimate project, or is it a scam? We have partnered with PCI (also known as Publishing Concepts) to produce our new members directory. PCI is a company located in Dallas, TX that publishes directories for educational institutions, fraternities, sororities and military organizations across the nation. This project allows The American Legion, Department of Florida to receive important updates to our database so we know more about our members and how we can better serve you and future members."    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN IN THE REAL WORLD?   More and more and more ROBO CALLS from institutions that collect your personal data will be hounding you with offers.

Yes, (you've heard it before over and over) the website has a disclaimer that 'we won't share your data etc. etc. etc.' yada yada yada.  But, in fact, as a computer science professional and normal citizen as well I can cite dozens and dozens of breakdown in data security nationally and internationally.  From local businesses to international corporations we are seeing break-ins and theft of data on a grand scale.

What's in it for the American Legion.   They get some form of income from it that, truly, can benefit our membership.  BUT no matter WHAT their partners at (PCI say, THEY are profiting from this partnership--that's how business works?   How do they profit?  YOUR DATA WILL BE OUT THERE!   Believe it.  Don't fall for this phishing ploy of blasting your personal data out there to be of even greater identity theft.   Don't blame the American Legion, they are honest and reliable.  But are these (PCI) people honest and reliable?  Ask yourself, 'What's in it for (PCI)?  MONEY from YOUR DATA in some fashion or manner.   They are't in it for NOTHING--count on it.

Reply at your own peril and when you get 40 more ROBO calls a day, ask yourself--Why IS that?
