I got 2 calls from this number today

I keep getting calls from this number and when you answer no one is there! Then if you call it back a message says to wait on the line for the next agent and have the telephone number they called available to verify your file! I hung up after being on hold for 5 minutes.
Still dont know who it is or what they want!

This number is a call centre out of Quebec and is calling on behalf of CIBC. I personally do not deal with CIBC so it can not be a collection agency.

About a week ago my Visa card info was compromised w/ unauthorized transactions, and the card canceled.  Since then I received 3-4 hang-up calls from 1-866-629-8168.  Today I answered, was hung-up upon, answered again and spoke w/ a person who claimed;
- to be contacting me on behalf of CIBC
- this was not a sales call
- needed to confirm who it was they were speaking with
- requested my date of birth
I told them I'd call Visa myself, and ended the call there.  A google search returned VOXDATA out of Montreal (514-871-1920, 1-800-861-9599) as the caller - CIBC confirmed Vox is a "contracted company" with them

Call Vox Data at 416-224-8482. They are a call center on behalf of a few major banks. Ask to be removed from their list and they will take you off. You may have to do it periodically over the next year or so. But it will work.

I've also been getting huge amount of calls from this number.

They called again today and informed me that My SHOPPERS OPTIMUM VISA card will be discontinued as of August 2008. They asked me if I received a letter they sent me regarding my new visa card options on which new visa card I would like.

Keep getting calls from these guys but never picked up. I figured if its important they'll leave a message but they never do! So finally I pick up and there no one there and it just hangs up! What the? I call back, and all there is is a voice message saying "We are VOXDATA and we contacted you on behalf of CIBC".

I have been getting phone calls from this # since June 26th.  They call but don't leave message. And whenever they called, I was not able to answer my call.

Thanks for the tip "weezer" - I will tell them to get me off their calling list. I prefer dealing directly w/ CIBC myself.

These guys have been calling me relentlessly for the past couple weeks. I answer but nobody's there, and they never leave a message. Now I just hang up on them, but they will call right back seconds later!

Spoonz I started doing the same thing last night. I've been getting 3 calls a day since June 28. I can't stand hearing my phone ring before voice mail picks up so I started just answering and hanging up immediately. Today I picked up but said nothing and I got nothing but dead air on the other end. I think I am due for two more calls today. I checked my call display list and they seem to call around lunchtime once and then twice between 5pm and 7pm. I will try the 416 number. These guys have called 22 times in 2 weeks.

it's ARC..accounts recovery services...they work on behalf on major banks
trying to collect money to pay then off...some can be very friendly..others however are a bit rude..

AND they will start calling ur home at 8:00am and go right through til 10pm..i always thought any service could NOT call your hone till 9am or after uo to 9pm???

the longer you blow them off...the nastier they become

This number has to be a telemarketer, as they keep calling me, daytime, evenings and weekends, but never leave a message.  Do not answer the call, as once you do, their computer has you in their system, and will contact you again.

hang ups - 7-8 days in a row always just after 5pm est

this is another one that calls alot, good thing I am not home a great deal, still I hate to see it on the Caller ID, they just can't take the hint I am not phoning back!!

most phones have a option to "pickup and hangup" automatically....thus not allowing the caller to leave a voice mail. Best option.
