- sam| 2 repliesOur call display showed 403-754-6495 with no name displayed. The caller asked if our local MLA could count on my support in upcoming election. ( note - Alberta will call an election any day now. ) I said I did not like to have these types of questions asked via the telephone, especially now with the news of the robocall mess at last federal election.
I asked her if she was calling from a voter's list. She confirmed " yes ", she was calling from a voters list, said she worked for Campaign Research that she said is headquartered in Ottawa and that she was calling from London,Ontario. ( BTW Campaign Research has a website.) Her explanation for the 403 area code number on our call display as opposed to the area code for London which is 519 was that their calls are routed via the internet so area codes on call displays can be incorrect. Campaign Research works for municipal, provincial and federal politicians and not necessarily for one political party exclusively. She agreed to take me off of her list but advised that I should call 1-866-647-5145 and request they remove my tel number from all of their data bases as well. She was polite, informative and as helpful as possible under the circumstances. I have absolutely no way of knowing if she was truthful.
My advise to those who don't want these types of calls from no where and no particular traceable number is DO NOT GIVE YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER TO ENUMERATORS who call at your homes. Voters lists, once tabulated, are made available to everyone and anyone who runs for a political office. Voters lists are complete with names, addresses and telephone numbers of those registered to vote. Obviously voters lists, once given out, keep on existing long after elections are over and done with. Do not expect the DNCL to help you get away from these callers either.
Perhaps we should lobby to have our voter's lists be kept private and confidential. That would make the politicians get back out there and meet and greet us in our homes,at our doors and in our own communities. They might also have to start hosting town halls again so we can question them before we vote ( or don't vote ) for them.- Caller: Campaign Research

- EdI hardly need a phone call from these good folks having recently had a hip replacement and simply do not need a painful trip to answer the phone.
- IzpezzioIt's irritating that the politicians only want to hear from you when they can get something back. Otherwise, they just dictate and condemn each other.
- Kathy from TorontoI did not pick up, but seeing the comments here leads me to believe they want my opinion on the upcoming Ontario Provincial election. They would NOT get it - that is private information, and I do not pick up unidentified #s.
