Left a voicemail talking about putting a stop to your residence or place of employment and a case number.... Legitimate, I highly doubt it. Without saying your name and using general terms for personal information, sounds mighty suspicious.

This is a scam. Daniel is likely an employee from the scam company. I got a call stating he was from Palmer Patrick and Associates and asking wanting to verify my SSN and Driver License Number.

Daniel, what company is this? This number is not associated with any legit company. Were you really served or paid to say that? Police officers now serve people???

Warning: There are shills on this thread. They are inventing stories to try to frighten people into paying strangers who call them on the phone.

    • You are never called in advance before being served with a summons
    • Process servers are not police officers

(The people making this calls and posting fake messages on this site are probably outside the U.S., which is why they're unaware of these facts.)

Before paying any alleged debt you should make the (alleged) creditor PROVE (in writing, by law):
    • That you owe the money
    • That you owe it to them

Many of these crooks like to victimize people who really do have debt by tricking them into paying the wrong person. Anyone can phone you up and say "you owe me money". Make 'em prove it.

who informed me that I could serve up to 9 yrs in jail if I did not pay a debt that is not mine. Added, there cannot be a criminal complaint if you default.

There is no such thing as "debtor's prison" in the United States.  The next time they call, ask them for the case number so you can look it up on the Court's docket (be sure to mention that you need the judicial district in which it was filed - that really throws them).  I did that and the lady got really mad and said, "Well, um, um...you have a good day, ma'am!" and hung up on me.
