Called first time using Call Block then called a short time later without call block. Since they blocked the first call, then they must be up to no good.

They have been calling me almost every weekday morning between 10 and 12, for about two weeks now. At first they left voicemail messages for a "Lauren Love," that it was urgent, from ARC, regarding reference number (some long stream of numbers) and to call back at 1-888-255-0265 ext. 2056. I really don't want to talk to them, so I changed my voicemail message to say, "Lauren does not live here." and they still keep calling, but don't leave messages.

The 1-866-709-1124 call me several times a day, every day, without leaving voice mails or actually answering the phone.  An automation answers.  Pain in the a*s Collection Agency.  Doesn't matter if you tell them they have the wrong number or not - they won't stop calling. The only way to stop the calls is to change your number and make it unlisted and never give it out!

Yeah they are an collection agency, basically any 1(866) # are from collectors or solicitators.Beware though some might be a scam from an con artist. They usually use caller i.d. spoofing in order to decieve. If they claim to be from a collection agency just ask for them to confirm your identity such as asking if they know your d.o.b. ,address, sin# etc. If they can't provide the answers then that's your cue that their up to no good. If they are indeed from a genuine collection agency and you know that you are delinquent in your payments then you should not worry too much, because they really have no legal grounds to sue you or even garnish your wages lets alone confiscate your assets. The reasons for this is simple, according to the contract you signed and agreed with your creditors,it clearly stipulates that you owe the money to them and them alone.once your creditor write of the amount they are unable to collect and sell it to an collection agency, then your no longer legally obligated to pay them, simply because the contract clearly stipulates that you owe the money solely to the creditor and not the collection agency.Furthermore when the collectors do make the threat of suing you, they know that the have no legal grounds, their just saying it in order to scare you into paying.Collectors usually buy written off debt from your creditors by say purchasing it for 20 cents on the dollar. This is basically how the collectors are able to profit.

This isnt a legal collection agency, I get this call twice a day within 30 minutes of the previous call. This is a new phone, and I am 100% sure I do not need to be dealing with a collection agency. Im young, no debt, I shouldnt be getting this call. Put it on your block list within the phone if you have to

    In Debt
I can be honest they are calling me with reason. Our house bills without any debts is going in the whole about 40% more each month. I explained that the recession is doing a number on my 5 person family and that I can not pay them until things pick up again. They then threatend to contact other people I associate with and even a company I sub contract to. They have no need to contact them as they already have my correct address and phone number thus the communication with me to inform me of there intent. I live in BC and according to our debt collection laws if they follow through with this communication they would be breaking the law. Nice to know they are legal :)

Same here. I get calls from that number it seems on a daily basis. It's an obvious fraud and scam..
No real collection agency would call, and have a recording play when someone answered the phone requesting that they call the 'collection agency' back. If things were that urgent, they'd call you with a real person who'd talk to you about the situation.

I've gotten this phone number quite a bit on my business cell phone lately ( I never answer 1800s, because its almost always people looking for money for something).   I actually called it and blocked my number and some dude answered it with a middle eastern accent.  He answered "hello".  No business name no nothing.  Could be fraud, next time I am answering it giving them sh%t.  I have received calls like this with a recording telling me to call or wait the line because it is "urgent" and I did it a few times and sure enough it actually was a collection agency (in which I did owe money and paid them).  So they do indeed use this tactic and it is annoying as hell because its an automated phone call and they will call you the same time every day multiple times until you do something about it.

I had a similar call and they said they were affiliated with visa. This guy also had a middle eastern accent  ( I knew they weren't  visa because they were offering me a free trip and a bunch of other free stuff)   I played their game for a while and then said "nah I don't want the free stuff"...he got all pissed and said "how can you not want it, its free!.." So I said I will think about it and told them I had another incoming call and to hold for a minute...I put him on hold...he waited at least 20 minutes...before he hung up...and I haven't heard from them since..they were obviously frauds

This was a call from ARC, they tried to tell me that a debt I had from 5-6 years ago with Canadian Tire Credit card was accumlating interest. I had a outstanding balance of about $200 and then I lost my job and then moved, I totally even forgot about the debt cause I threw out all my credit cards after I lost said job and thought I had had them all paid off at that point. The ammount they mentioned $1700. WHAT I freaken they can not charge $1500 bucks in interest on a old debt of $200! I told them to in not such terms to bugger off I would not ever pay that if Canadian Tire want the money I have it now I will pay THEM. Other wise take me to court or stop calling me! They tried to tell me this would not ever go away and if I keep waiting I would owe more.....then he offered me a deal, $1200 again I said have a great life scum bag and hung up! There has to be a way to stop this. I checked my credit report after this thinking what else I may have missed and there is only this and my current card and loan. On my report it says ARC bought from Canadian Tire $198.36, new balnce $250.00 so where in Gods name did this freaken loser on the phone get $1700. There has got to be something that can be done, this was an honest mistake I pay everything regularily and have a great credit rating considereing I have this one delinquent debt......Oh and they keep changing my info so that they can keep my account active on my report which I know is ILLEGAL!

The number is from ARC (Accounts Recovery Corp.) - a collection agency.
Just got a call from them today (Sep. 16 / 2010) for an unknown reason (cetrainly no missed payments on outstanding debts at my end).
My landline is a VOIP service with a concierge which allows me to block or redirect unwanted calls (i.e. anything from a 1-866* or anything else I define) to my voicemail.
The message left was an automated one and not specific to any individual they were looking for.
It does puzzle me how they got my number as it is an unpublished "private" number and has been for more than 10 years.

They have been calling at least twice a day lately- they are now blocked.
Their message says this is not a solicitation. To call back with a reference
number that they give you. Where are the authorities on these turkeys.

    Heather
I have been getting calls from them for a while now. I answerd and an operator asked if I was heather (my last name) Then she told me there was someone who was waiting to talk to me and she transferred me.
This man then said that he was from ARC and needed me to verify the last 3 digits of my S.I.N and then when I asked him who he was calling on behalf of, he said he couldn;t tell me until I verified my last 3 digits.
I then told him the digits and he said it was diffirant from the one he had on file then hung up.
I called the number back and some other guy answerd and I told him what happend and he said they were looking for a differant Heather (my last name)...... said they would not call me again.... hmmmm
