Freuent calls, never leave messages.  I'd like to know who it is before I permanently lock them.

I've been getting this call almost everyday.  I even got one on Saturday.  They have called twice a day on several occasions.  I figure if it's important, they will leave a message.  (Oh yes...it's not my fault their "automated system" doesn't know how to leave a message at the sound of the beep.)

I'm getting a call from this number as well, however this number appears with no listing within revenue services bc.
I got a call from this number and the rep asked me to identify myself with SIN and mailing address. I will never verify this information on an incoming call.
So when I looked the number up, the closest thing I could find to a result was this page. Maybe it's legitimate, but I have every reason to be suspicious and want to verify who I am speaking with before releasing personal info,

the call is coming from a debt recovery company called ARC Accounts Recovery.  They have been calling my house NUMEROUS times a day and when I went to answer the phone, there is no one there.  I got to the point that when I see, UNKNOWN NUMBER on my phone, we don't answer it and one day they actually left a message and told me who they were.

Here's a tip : if you don't like collection phonecalls, pay your bills! No debt = no collections!!! I know it's a tough concept to wrap your head around, but if you try real hard, I'm sure you'll manage!

I don't have call display so I don't know if they've been trying, but my number is unlisted and I never give it out because, well, the only thing I use the phone for is a doorbell. This is the first time I've gotten a message from them, and it's on a Sunday. All my bills are up to date, so if it's a collection agency, they are sniffing serious glue.

I never respond to automated calls. If they want me to call back, they can have a genuine non-aggressive actual person explain what's going on to my machine, or you know, identify who the hell they are beyond initials and threats and I'll take it from there. If these guys are a collection agency, they are morons who do not know phone service techniques which will result in an actual contact taking place.

WHY WOULD YOUR BANK HAVE RECORD OF AN ACCOUNT GOING TO COLLECTIONS????? IF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WENT TO COLLECTIONS THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO TELL YOU THAT, BUT THEY HAVE NO WAY OF ACCESSING YOU MSP ACCOUNT DO THEY???? HERE'S A TIP: TRYING CALLING THE COLLECTION AGENCY AND ACTING LIKE AN ADULT FOR A MOMENT. VERIFY YOU ARE THE CORRECT INDIVIDUAL, AND FIND OUT WHY THEY ARE LOOKING FOR YOU.....THAT'S HOW IT WORKS IN THE REAL WORLD!

You have some pretty serious issues don't you? Why do you feel compelled to reply to people in this manner? These forums are here for people to get info, not abuse. Did it ever occur to you that some people get phone calls despite the fact that their bills are all paid. ( for example, a wrong number ) "In the real world", adults act like adults, not spastic immature brats. Sounds to me like you may be a collection agent. My advice to you ; The job has gotten the better of you. Quit, and find a real job before you give yourself a hernia.

"WE DONT CARE ABOUT ANY GODDAM THING EXCEPT YOU PAY US WHAT WE SAY YOU OWE" is precisely why you are a criminal and a scammer but why bother with debt collection? Since legality is a mere trifle to you, why not go into something more exotic like bank robbery? Kidnapping? Terrorism? Given that you can't or refuse to understand that old data held by debt collectors are frequently inaccurate because the real debtors quickly change phone numbers to avoid calls and you end up calling the innocent new owners of ex-debtor numbers, I'd have to agree with collector-is-brainless on your state of mental acuity.

Here is something we all need to be concerned about.  There are cases - mine is one whereHealth care gave my account to collections even though it was partner's income tax audit which was holding up the application for assistance and there was no way for me to dissaccociate from that process in my own right. They were actually receiving monies from me all the time as well - though not in the amount they wanted - which was wrong - we knew we would be right in the end; which we were. Clearly this raises several issues in terms of whether my individual rights were infringed. As I am on disability this became a very serious issue.  If you are being harassed in error you need to follow up with your MP and through all the avenues available to you.  Contrary to what ARC says they are being funded with taxpayer dollars and there are many people who are being pursued erroneously.   We are protected legally and it is incumbent on us individually to fight for our rights when a wrong is committed. One of the duties of the citizen in a democracry is to act as a watchdog of those that govern and unless we perform that duty these types of things can happen.
The most ridiculous thing of all is when I learned that a) ARC has access to my healthcare screen and b) even though Medical Services Plan instructed them to act on their behalf they wouldn't call them off when MSP knew they were in error - I stood my ground and told MSP I had no relationship with them and would not acknowledge any relationship with them as I was never in arrears of my MSP.  One of the problems is that the robotic system is set up to only deal with very simplistic scenarios that benefit MSP not you. If any of the variables in your situation are outside of the scenario too bad for you - your own government throws you under the bus - something they never do to themselves. Only we can effect change and tell them loudly and clearly this is not a system we want.

    To all:

Most debt collector's want to talk to you as little as you want to talk to them. It's a hard job, but the truth of it is, we are people earning a living to support our families. You may describe debt collector's as scum, but it's the companies goals and poilies that you disagree with not the employees themselves. It is understandable that you would dislike numerous phonecalls, or collection efforts, but handlign it well the first go-around really extinguishes those issues quickly. If it's the wrong number, simply say so, we're happy to remove it. If the bill is wrong, ask for help on how to resolve it. If the problem is you dont want the company getting a portion of you payment, then pay the client. Just don't treat the person who's calling like garbage simply because to disagree with their job-choice. There is a stigma attatched to the job-title that is way off-base. WE ARE PEOPLE TOO!

This is anonymous who replied 18 Oct 2010 to COLLECTOR's abusive post. You'll get no sympathy from me. Your "If it's the wrong number, simply say so, we're happy to remove it" is nonsense. Based on COLLECTOR's post, I conclude ARC extorts money from innocent new-owners of ex-debtor phone numbers as routine policy without due diligence to confirm that ARC is indeed interacting with bona fide debtors. Extortion is a crime or haven't you heard? If ARC employees are people too, then so were members of Hitler's SS. COLLECTOR would have enjoyed working for Hitler at the camps.
