- Yagmur| 8 repliesIt's CPL RETAIL ENERGY, they call to remind you to pay your bill.
- Caller: CPL RETAIL ENERGY
- BarbaraThey called last night about 7 PM and today at noon. No one responds when I answer. If they are CPL Retail Energy (and I got no caller ID, so I don't know), then it cannot be about a bill, since I don't get service from them.
- Ahlyne| 4 repliesI've gotten the same call three days in a row at the same time. Every time I pick up no one answers, and I'm not a CPL customer either
- TerryHave received several calls from this number. Caller ID only shows unknown name and the number. No matter whether or not I answer (I have picked up on the first ring), there is never anyone there and there is never any message.
- Tammy replies to Yagmur| 6 repliesWell, they tell us they're with WTU Retail Energy, and they "need to update our information". They have also sent us things in the mail threatening to cut off our electric service if we don't return their call. The mail they sent includes our electirc account number, and is addressed to current resident. I have called my electric company several times about this, and have been told the number is listed to one of their subsidiaries. They have no explanation as to why the mail would be addressed to current resident rather than the account holder, nor an explanation as to why the letters threaten to disconnect our service. I suspect the calls as well as the mail is in direct retaliation over a couple of complaints I have made with the public uitility commission over WTU Retail energy illegally disconnecting us on tow different occassions two days after we paid our bill. Naturally, even though we had grounds for restoration of our reconnect fee, PUC sided with the energy giant since they're all "in bed together". And, some friends and relatives have suggested we switch providers, but reality check says wouldn't do any good since these are only collectors for the one big conglomerate/monopoly who owns the power company.
- MishaReceived a call this morning - a Saturday. I didn't answer at the time. I looked at the caller id which only gave the number. When I tried to call the number back, I received a message that the number was no longer in service or disconnected. I tried several times and got the same message. Kind of scary.
- MishaI have continued to recieve several calls a day. Finally, today I managed to get through to them - it's CPL.
- C. Nova replies to Tammy| 5 repliesWow, sorry.. I just had to "lol" at this post because of the complete and utter misinformation presented. Next time you call your electric provider, why don't you try listening to what the representative on the other end is trying to tell you instead of letting it go in one ear and out the other. I mean.. I realize that for some people, that's hard to do, because we all know that we just can't possibly be wrong about anything and that it's the 'big bad electric company crooks' fault that our service was disconnected because we neglected to pay our bill on time. Lol.. I digress, though.
Also, as far as there being 'one big conglomerate/monopoly who owns the power company', you are again in error. There was a time where TXU was the sole transmission and distribution service provider for the state of Texas. However a tiny little thing called Deregulation occured and suddenly, wow! TXU no longer had complete control over electric service in the state! Thus many smaller TDSPs formed and with them, many of the electric providers that you know of and may use (CPL, WTU, Direct Energy, Reliant, etc.) were either assigned or signed by these new TDSPs. So, in actuality, your theory of 'one big conglomerate/monopoly who owns the power company' is completely and entirely.. wrong.
I'm not sure whose/which 'reality' you were checking when your obviously genius ingenuity was performing said check.. but you *might* want to look into having another one done sometime in the near future. - C. Nova replies to Ahlyne| 3 repliesWhat's probably happened in your case (and any others out there who might be receiving these calls when they're not CPL/WTU customers) is that your telephone number is linked to an existing account. Most commonly, these accounts have outstanding overdue balances and the collections department are trying to reach the customer in attempt to have the outstanding balance paid. The only way they can reach the customer is by using the phone number that they provided when they enrolled for service, or any alternate number that might be on the account.
If you have changed your number recently, then the number that you currently have was more than likely the old phone number of a past/current customer and the information on the account is just not updated. This is especially common if it is a cell phone number.
What you need to do if you receive calls from CPL/WTU and you are not a customer is just call them back and give the representative that you talk to the telephone number where you have been receiving the calls. They will use the number to perform a search for any existing accounts that the number is linked to. Be sure to explain that you are not a current customer, but that you have been receiving collection calls, and the representative will update the accounts by deleting the number you have provided from any accounts pulled during the search.
That should then solve the problem of receiving collection calls from CPL/WTU if you are not a current customer.
Hope this was helpful. :) - Jim HowardI'm getting almost continous calls from these clowns. Most of the time three is nothing there when I answer, or after a pause a recording says 'this is important' or some such.
If they are not willing to identify themselves then as far as I'm concerned they are probably crooks.
My electric company knows how to contact me, and so far they have not done so.
This call stinks of scammers. - wasget about 4 calls a day form this number. I answer it evreytime and am hung up on. I do not use this listed energy company.
- NVI have started receiving calls from this number for the last few days and no one answers. I am a customer of CPL, but I haven't missed a payment and I'm sure if they wanted a payment, even if it was an error, they would answer when I pick up. I let it go to voicemail now.
- Melissa G. replies to C. NovaIn actuality, AEP is the Main provider here in our portion of Texas, CPL TXU and others collect the payments make their charges etc.. but AEP is the Backbone behind all of them.
I too receive calls from CPL, sometimes the autodialer just messes up. And it hangs up when you answer. Other times you actually get a representative. - JCHave received two calls from this number as of lunch today. No one is there when I answer. I don't use CPL or WTU retail energy. I use a different company.
- Caller: ?
- Jenna replies to YagmurIt's CPL energy and they have been harassing me for weeks regarding a bill on property that I sold several months ago--I told them I no longer own it, but they don't care. I also told them to fu** off and I would NEVER pay. They keep calling. I would NEVER buy electricity from these people again!
- Hank| 2 repliesSorry you don't understand. There has been lots of bad information here, but let's remedy the situation. Deregulation happened, but TXU wasn't the only delivery company - not even the largest. They are a BUSINESS. They will harass you, for whatever reason, as long as there is a RETURN ON THEIR INVESTMENT. If you get harassing calls, especially during inconvenient hours (before 8 AM or after 7 PM) from a toll-free number - 1) find you a comfortable spot after 9 PM, 2) get a supply of your favorite beverage, 3) turn on your favorite TV program, and 4) CALL and 5) CALL and 6) CALL . . . Each time, listen to the end of the message, hang up, and CALL AGAIN. They get charged by the CONNECTION MINUTE. It only takes about an hour of calls, spread over a couple of weeks, for it to get REAL EXPENSIVE! Good Luck, and May God Bless.
- Caller: CPL/WTU
- kenogrz replies to Hankthere is only one problem with your nice idea. they will only pass on the charge over to the consumer one way or another. and no matter what anybody say about there being more than one company it all comes from the same source. so in the end yes there is only one giant.
- GinnExcuse me! My bill was just due yesterday Nd I have already.received 4 calls from them. WTU /CPL must need to harass their customer for their bill.
- Caller: WTU
- prov replies to HankYour an Idiot
