- Carleen| 5 repliesThey have been calling for awhile and I don't pick up because I haven't found out who they are. I just got a letter today with US Airlines and under a tagline Fly the US Skies. They say I qualified for an award of 2 roundtrip airline tickets. No indication how I got this "award" or what I needed to qualify. Sounds like a scam waiting to happen, but this fish isn't biting. It was signed by Laura Shane Vice President. Not sure what she's VP of, but I'm guessing bullcrap.
- Caller: US Airlines
- Iam replies to Carleen| 2 repliesJust got the same letter. My first thought was scam so I started googling. Not biting either.
- T. Nikodem replies to Iam| 1 replyDitto for me.
My wife just got the same letter from Arizona, phone number 866-740-5226, signed by laura Shane, VP (of scams?).
It was so amateurish looking that I was just going to toss it, but decided to Google it instead.
I especially noted the "Certain restrictions apply." at the bottom of a paragraph. Of course, there was no further mention of what restrictions might apply.
ALL of my suspicions were confirmed online, - anonymous replies to T. NikodemTHIS IS A SCAM. "US AIRLINES" DOES NOT EXIST. This is the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, gift card, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, secure handling, service, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number, or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.
- Better Luck Next Time replies to Carleen| 1 replyI got one too today. It's completely fake...no return address...name hand printed on the front of envelope...no return address on envelope...and a very fake looking logo for US Airlines...which if googled does not exist...and Laura Shane's name brings up other weary recipients wondering if this is a scam.
I'm thinking it might be a Collection Service using this to get you to call them instead of them calling you. Or it could just be a poorly made scam. Either way I would stay clear...or as another recipient had posted, they are returning theirs to their local post and reporting it as mail fraud.
Better luck next time suckers! - Lynda replies to Better Luck Next TimeI got this today, also. However, I know it isn't from a collection agency, because all of my bills are paid.
It's a fake -- probably trying to get credit card info.
