    Kept getting calls from 866-765-5133. Couldn't find anything on them so I called to tell them that I am on the Do Not Call list and to stop calling. They actually had information on me that took me by surprise. I had them send me a letter to make sure it wasn't some kind of scam, he did, and they actually check out.

    These people are calling friends and family members of my niece day and night saying they are going to start a legal process if she doesn't call them within 24 hrs. 1st- they are calling people who don't even know my niece. 2nd- they don't leave a company name on the message or number they leave to call. This is obviously a scam and hope they spend a couple years with BUBBA in a federal prison.

    These [***] are calling my ex-husband and his family...we have been divorced 16yrs.  I live 2 hrs away from them.  They call my family, i'm like how the hell do you know who my brothers and sisters are.  Why would you call ex of 16yrs. that i have absolutely nothing to do with.  They are scammers.  They say they are gonna go ahead with legal processing of taking me to court if i dont pay some unreasonal amount.  Well go ahead do what you gotta do.  They started this about 8 mths ago, the controller at work answered one of the calls told them the work address and go ahead and send the papers there to me and not to call my job again!  Didnt hear from them anymore until last week, it started back.

    These people called me. When I called them back, Ms. Mangone answered the phone and stated that they are a county company for Financial Processing Network and she is in the litigation department. When I asked her what county she stated Hillside and I asked for what state. She stated it was from Tampa, Florida. I asked her why would Florida be calling me. She asked for my phone number and when I was giving her the number, she pretended not to hear me and stated, hanging up now and hung up on me. I called her back and she kept saying hello hello and then stated, hanging up now and hung up on me again.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    I received a call from  813-995-6163. After listening to the voice mail, a Miss McClain said to call her back directly to 866-765-5133. When I called back, it was not a direct line and the guy who called himself Devin Harris helped me (since Miss McClain was away on lunch) I asked to send me a letter on letter via email. The email I got was typed up and not real letter head. I never took out a pay day loan but somehow they have my number and a very old address. They said I need to pay 400.00 by end of today or it will go to court. SCAMMERS!!!!

Could see where all the stupid people on this site said they where a scam!! Told him that, he told me he was not going to have me pay if I did not feel like I owed it. Told him I really think they are a scam and I was not paying him then hung up on him. DEMAND a legitimate, physical mailing address in which to send a cease communication letter. If they refuse, let them know you will be seeking legal counsel who will get it for you.

    PLEASE READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY
    If you applied for a Pay Day loan you are most likely the target of this scam.  They bought your information from the scum scamer website that pretended to find a Pay Day loan for you.  How do I know this as fact?  Because I get these calls all the time on the Google Voice number that I set up to apply for Pay Day loans, I never used it for anything else. They have all your information including your SS# because you gave it to them!  Ignore them DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY they are scammers!!!!!  Asking them to send you a letter by mail does nothing because again they have all your information.  No legit collection agency will conduct themselves this way.  Also don't worry about the "court action" they have against you THEY USE THIS AS A FEAR TOOL TO GET YOU TO SEND THEM MONEY you can trust me on this. Any legit court action has to be served to you properly (as per your state laws).  Also any court action can be stopped at any time by the Plaintiff even after it has been filed.  Also don't be fooled by the phone numbers.  Somtimes they use a 202 number to make it look like it's a Federal number or they use 800, 888, 866 ect to look like a business don't be fooled.  They change the phone numbers once people catch on.

    I WANT TO TAKE THESE A**HOLES DOWN!! Feel free to copy this post and post it in any forum like this to warn other this is the only way they will be stopped.

    Replies to THIS IS A SCAM:  Thank you for posting your information.  I cannot believe the gall these companies have when they call and demand payment for an "alleged" payday loan.  Payday loans are illegial in my state.  I received a call from this phone number today and returned the call.  They gave me the spiel about a payday loan.  I told them payday loans are illegial and unenforceable in North Carolina, etc., etc.  The guy asked for the statute and I provided it with the date it was effective.  It argued and said no.  I asked for proof of any alleged debt.  He said he wasn't going to play "Ring Around The Rosey" with me.  Whatever.  I couldn't get an address of anything out of him.  I would love to send a no contact letter.  Also, they didn't like hearing that a statute of limitations had run on collecting any "alleged" debt as well.  I would really like to close these people down as well.

    YES, these folks are a SCAM.

    Then you are a[removed:lang], in order for a lien to be placed, you first have to have a judgment against you, in order to get a judgment, you have to be served with a Civil Complaint from the Court. Then, if you don't answer the summons and THEN don't object to the motion for Judgment, that is only when a lien placed.  Which means you were served court papers, that you steadily ignored, for MONTHS!!!!!!!  It takes a long time for a civil case to process and a judgment to be issued and then a lien to be issued.  Also, don't tell me you don't live at the same address because the court case can't even go forward without proof from the plaintiffs that complaint and summons were served.  So either you're the dumbest person i've ever met, or you are lying to get people to call this number.

    Lastly, these debts they are collecting on THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS IS UP!!

    Personally, I would prefer that they served me with a summons.  Then I would have a record of who I was dealing with, that it gets paid, and verification that it's not a scam.

    Thank You for this very informative information. These kind of companies try to contact me all the time. I have asked for a statement to be sent to my home several times. They always say that they can not send anything in the mail. However they will tell you they can except payments from a credit card & direct deposit from your bank!
