This person left a message again recently, stating it had something to do with bank fraud and identity theft.  I find that hard to believe, knowing that my family has nothing to do with that.  My family member will however   call him in case there has been a crime AGAINST them.

Calling the number gets a recorded message stating something to the effect "You have reached the general investigations unit fraud and concealment division" and allows you to enter an extension, leave a message, or dial an operator.

Dialing the operator transferred me to an investigator (sounded like Norton but connection was bad) who stated the company was called "SB Investigations."  Once again, connection was bad but thats what it sounded like.  The only SB Investigations I found was a company out of the UK.  Who knows if that is the same place.

If it is just a glorified collection agency trying to locate someone my family members don't even know, that will come apparent very quickly.

As for you, Tina, when people start dropping lines such as "filing charges" and "legal action" they are playing cards to scare you into cooperation and volunteering information that you do not have to provide.  If you have done something where you owe money, you are obviously aware already what it could involve.  If you have not personally done anything, don't even entertain these people if they try to push you around.

Titles and phone messages with "investigator" and "fraud" in them are just ways for collection companies or investigators in their stead to sound like they have more power than they do.  Actual legal entities will clearly identify themselves and their affiliation (Sheriff, Police, IRS, etc.) in any correspondence.

If you get served papers at your home or workplace, then, yes charges are filed and you must respond.  Until then, it is just companies out there trying to get debt collected to make money for themselves, no matter how scary they sound.

And one more thing, when a collection agency contacts you, all they have to do is verify who you are and make you aware of the debt in order to proceed with such things as ruining your credit.  If you learn to never answer when those 866 numbers come in, they can never talk to you.  Or better yet, pay bills on time. :)  People can get behind but there is usually a very long process between a missed payment and actual collections or legal action.  As for people who make a game out of not paying bills, I don't have much sympathy or input on that.

Actually i had something similar happen to me. I was contacted by an "bank fraud investigator" who said charges were going to be filled and what do you know? It happened. Word of advise, pay your bills ON TIME!!! and I later contact the investigator and he explained that he was trying to help and could have avoided the whole situation. Now i'm facing the consequences. Live and learn i guess.

I wouldn't take advice from "x", who posted on Aug 7, 2007.  He has no idea what he's talking about.  It doesn't matter if you answer your phone or speak with a collection agency.  Sign a contract, don't pay your bills...and find out what happens.

"Don't answer your phone" is the most idiotic advice I've ever heard.  Try being a responsible adult and dealing with your problems.  I'm dumber from having read that post.

A joint investigation by DMV and CHP Investigators has uncovered an illegal motor vehicle subleasing operation by Independent Dream Auto (IDA. Independent Dream Auto advertised a subleasing service.
Investigators arrested the principal operator of IDA--26-year old S. Evanovich, and booked him. Bail was set at $125,000. He was charged with eight counts of 571 PC -unlawful subleasing of a vehicle-- and four counts of embezzlement. (504 PC).  Concealment of collateral (154 a) is real you moron.  Suggestion;  do your research if your late on your vehicle note before reading any more blogs to educate yourself.  Morons like you are the main reason why this economy is in trouble.   Has anyone out there ever signed a legal contract?  Do you know what legal means moron?!

The numbers they leave you are to what is called a spoof, trap or blind line the extention is usually the last 4 didgets of your internal account 6 didget number. These services are provided by companies such as http://www.bellescamp.com/. When you call in to these blind line's, you r called id block is defeated even if you *67 the before you call. Other things they can do with these blind numbers are input exactly what they want to show up on your called id. If they have your mothers phone number they can use that to make you pick up. None of this is illegal. They can also put your own number into the caller id to get into your voicemail. That is illegal, but they do it anyway and get away with it.

Everyone at Skipbusters uses an alias, to protect their identity and they hide behind the blind line to escape the threat of any type of legal action. The average billing for a repo to one of their clients is arround 350 to 400 for the investigation and 350 to 400 for the repo. The investigator makes about 75 dollars commission per car, of which the contracted repo driver and his company usually makes only about 275 to 300 dollars per car.

Please please, please do not be afraid of SB investigations, they will use every tactic in the book to scare you, your friends and family to get to your car. To them you are not human and they do not care about what problems you have, you are just a number. On behalf of x Aug 7 post replies to Hunter S.
We'll let me tell you a little something. I just received a phone call today from 1-866-714-8949 x313 who states she is inviestigating a fraud claim with AllState and I'm going to jail if I dont answer her questions. #1 I'm getting ready for work and she made me late. #2 She started ansking me questions of a personal nature and when I didn't answer her she started calling me names. I tried to explain to her when she asked me if I knew the where about of a black truck my x-boyfrined purchased and I was going to get charhed for this. That I havent been with him for two years. I explained he passed away in Feb. and his girlfriend might have it. She put me down, putting my kids down. I dont even want to say how personal she got on the phone. She treatened to have police officers go to my place of employment and embarres me. She stated they would go to my home and nieghbors would see me arrested. She did get personal information from me. In the momment she had me scared. She new alot about me so I knew it wasnt a crank call. Now... if I would not have answered this fraudulant person herself would not have been able to get my personal information. If in fact it is a bill and as you said I signed a contract than they would send something in the mail and follow throught with proceeding. Why would I have to answer a call? If in fact it is a contract I signed than I would of known the concequences of not paying at the time of signature. Is that not correct?

So I say to all do not speak to someone who want to investigate a claim or anything else over the phone. Believe me. If it was important they would have someone at your door step. It is people who are desperate and unprofessional who are calling you. You do not want to go through an expereience such as mine.

Agreed abouty people being professional deadbeats, but try to staighten out problem with optimum online where they dont return call or honor promises yet they send out collection letters without warning or explanation. The large utility type companies and cable companies, comcast, optimum, et al really suck. Verizon is easiaer to deal with I found.
