They could not tell me why they were calling

They called my son's cell and asked for my wife (the numbers are one digit off). When he asked how they got his number, they hung up. The name they used was "PayLoan".

I just received a call from this number and it was Home Depot checking on something that was rented using my business cc.  My call was 10000% valid.

Automated voice immediately told me to remain on hold.....
.....nahh.

It was Home Depot telling you that an item you rented was due.

BS call from the "revenue recovery team at home depot" to be fake.

Left message she was with Home Depot "revenue recovery" & that items I rented needed to be returned?? I suspected this was a scam since I had already returned everything. Therefore, I did not call the number left in the voicemail & called the store directly. The store confirmed that the items were returned & in their system that they were returned.

Call from Home Depot recovery team about a carpet cleaner I recently rented. Project took 2 days longer than anticipated and plan to return tonight. Rented Sunday afternoon and supposed to be back Monday morning. Totally legit call for me.

Home Depot rental. If you hold a rental past the contract time, you will receive a call. Totally legit.

NOT HOME DEPOT! Called two Home Depot  stores in my area and we had nothing that we rented (a 20lb demolition hammer), since we are not remodeling or repairing our home at this time! Total scam call. Do not give telephone number or they may keep calling again!

Twelve entries on this thread and I count 6 as shills.  At a 50% shill rate, it should be pretty obvious that this is some sort of scam.  Basically they're fishing for personal information.  Note the similarity in the shill posts.

Now, if the shills follow true to form, there will immediately be at least three more shill posts telling everyone how "legit" this number is.

Says it’s Home Depot tool rental and somehow has info but after calling the store we rented from its clearly a scam.  My contract was closed and completed but this number claimed the contract was still open.

Yes, this is a collection notice phone # that Home Depot Rental use. Two ways you will get this call is, one you haven't updated your rental period / your due date has expired & you haven't returned your Rental Equipment yet. The Second reason why you could get this phone call is that you have not returned all your rental accessories check out and haven't gotten charged for them yet, or you have already check in your rental equipment & accessories but you haven't been charged a rental fee yet as your credit card was declined or if you wanted to put the charges on another credit card but you didn't have the card on you. Or lastly there were damages to the rental equipment that the charges that hasn't been processed yet as they wait on the parts to come in.

So which one of these fits you? Clearly they called you for one of those reasons. And why did you look up the number if you already know who called you?

So basically you don't have a clue about what the call is?  Because it sure sounds that way.  I think you might be one of the scammers that came here to blow smoke in front of the mirrors.
