They requested my Chevron account number and said they worked for the GE Money Bank and handled my Chevron account and were following up on fraud charges. Then when I questioned his legitimacy, he hung up.

Call the number on the back of the card and ask if there are indeed any fraud charges on the account just to make sure. If not, warn them of the scam.

Some guy called and left a message with my father-in-law at my house today, I called back and an indian woman answered "credit card services", she asked for my name and then my credit card info...  I said I didn't have my credit card, then she asked my home phone number, which I provided.  She then indicated she was trying to contact my ex-wife.  I indicated that she no longer lived at this address, gave her my ex-wife's phone number and the indian lady politely said I wouldn't be bothered anymore.

I forgot to mention, that they did identify my ex-wife by name, so they must be working off some sort of outdated list...

I recieved a call from another toll free number stating that I had credit charges to a credit card that I had just received. The card was never activated by me and already had 4 charges on it.  It was for an Paypal credit account which is serviced by  GE Capitol.

I was asked serveral questions to verify my identity. I began to get uneasy and asked for a number to call back. I was given this number (866-834-3205), and instead of calling this number I called the one on the back of the credit card. When answered it identified itself as GE Capital.  I had them cancel the card and clear the charges. They stated I would not be accountable for the charges. I also asked them about the 866-834-3205 number and they verified this was for their fraud detection people.

    Hope this helps.   Joe

They are scammers. Called to say a PayPal Smart Connect card had been opened in my name and a fraudulent charge had gone through. I called PayPal and they said no account had been opened and no application received. They are just fishing for your information.

Had to talk to them after signing up for a PayPal Smart Connect account.  Since I signed up online they needed to verify my identity.  They knew about attempted charges to the account (it wasn't working until they verified me) and didn't ask for any unnecessary or excessive info - for example, only the last 4 digits of my SSN.  Its a legit number.

I keep getting calls from these people telling me to call back with my case #! As soon as I called back and talked to a man with an accent he asked me for my case #, I said I didn't have it couldn't he look it up with my name and phone #, he IMMEDIATELY hung up. If u put this number into reverse phone look up, it will come up that they are tagged as TELEMARKETERS good luck

I got a voice message from a lady telling me they want to verify a Walmart account that was opened in my name. Lady didn't have an accent but a lot of "ums" in her scripts, so not very polished scammer. Left me a application number and a passcode number to call them back.  They are trying to phish for information! SCAMMERS!!!!

11 Nov 2016 - I got a message from this number telling me that someone tried to open a Walmart account in my name. When I called back I spoke to a man with an accent who immediately asked for my complete social security number so he could check it against any fraudulent activity. I offered the last 4 digits but he insisted on the full number. FYI, if someone you don't know and don't hold an account with is asking for your full SSN then it is a scam so I hung up immediately. Beware everyone, the scammers are out there this holiday season!

I actual got the call from 980-233-2000.  They are a scam trying to get your SSN.  Name on caller ID = Synchrony Financial.  They left a voicemail that I needed to confirm my Walmart credit application - which I never initiated.  They ask you to call 866-834-3205 with key code #WALML3HLMX.  When you do, they ask you to enter your "account number".  After no response, "If you don't have your account number, please enter your Social Security Number."  Then "please hold for the next representative," and then continously, "...will be with you shortly," but never pick up.  If you don't give them your SSN, they'll hope for the next sucker.

Since you are so knowledgeable, please answer the following questions:

    1. Who are they?  What is their full, legal name
    2. What is their legal address (no box numbers)
    3. What is the address of the official website that displays this phone number?
    4. In what states are they licensed?
    5. If you knew who they were, why did you search a phone complaints site for their number?

We eagerly await your reply, the lack of which strongly suggests you are a shill for that phone number.

This actually was from Synchrony Bank, which handles credit for many banks.  If you search for Syncrony you will find this as their number.  If you have a card they are calling about, then do not call this number, just as you should never call any number supplied in an email or phone message.  Call the number on the back of your card.  Be prepared to have to sit in a penalty box, hearing all your balance info, etc., and go through hell getting to a real person, but that is the only way to be secure that you are really in touch with the right people.  If you call this number, they are going to ask you a lot of information to verify things, and cannot prove who they are.  We hung up and called the number on the back of our card, and they did verify that we had spoken to them.  No reason to go through that, though.  Just call the number on the back of your card.  Scams are only going to get more polished and clever.  I can easily see someone who has compromised one of your cards calling you after it has stopped working, pretending to be working on the fraud investigation, to pump you for more info to vommit even more fraud.  There is no way for you to know if it is really the cc company, unless you call them back at a known good number.  This is a real number, but never call back a number provided in an email or voicemail.  Just don't do it.

It looks like (as of the time of me writing this) that number has not called very many people in quite a while, but it called me at 1am with only breathing sounds. Sounded like a woman, but I do not know. ... as an aside, this number may have been sold to a burner phone company, or one of the apps that can burn through temp. numbers. Remember, numbers are bought/sold/ported, etc. Called in middle of night. I think this somebody might be someone that I know because I doubt I have received unknown voice calls middle of night in the morning in my entire life, unless it’s somebody that I already know. Most of the time they are missed calls, because I don’t care around this phone with me all the time.

I take it you've never heard of phone number spoofing? Just because this number is listed for Synchrony Bank or on a law firm website doesn't mean the bank or law firm is who called you - especially not in the middle of the night!
