Anyone thought that maybe that person was sick, lost her/his job ..... We all have bad luck in our lifes !!! So think before calling anyone a bum.....!
I was just getting frustrated by that non-sense ! :) - Sebastian HawksThese slimeballs call my prepaid cell phone looking for someone who must have had this number years ago. A crooked industry that doesn't care that these days phone numbers are disposable and odds are they are just bothering a total stranger. No matter what number I change my Sim card to, I get these type of calls looking for all kinds of strangers I've never heard of. This annoying industry should be shut down and these rats sent to break rocks on the Aleutian Islands for a long long time.

- Racky replies to BobTo Bob:
Why is it that you ASSUME that since a debt collector is calling someone they ACTUALLY owe a debt? We keep getting calls from this company BUT we are debt free and collection free.
This number keeps calling our landline. Sometimes (about once every 10 calls) they leave a message that states the following:
This is a message for John K. Smith <not the real last name BUT the last name is the same last name as us>. This is NOT a telemarketing call. This is an attempt to collect a debt. If you are NOT John K. Smith press 1. IF you are John K. Smith please press 2. <blah blah blah>."
I/We are NOT John K. Smith. We do not KNOW a John K. Smith. NOR are we related to John K. Smith
Recently there has been an uptick in the number and frequency. They go away for a few months then start back up again.
There are, as listed in the local phone book, at least 50 - 75 "Smith" listed. I thought that debt collection robo-calling people who are NOT the debtor (we do not know a John K. Smith and we are somewhat certain we are not directly related to this person) was illegal.
This number has been robo-calling our number for at least a year now.
SO BOB NOT ALL PEOPLE they call are debtors or bums or deadbeats. - CCFlyThey call my cell, leave no message. Not sure who it is but I do not answer calls I do not know.
- SueI keep getting calls from this number & they never leave a message.
- DeeCalled and asked for X person who is not at this number. Recording said to press 1 if this was X and 2 if it was not X. I pressed 2 thinking it would end the call but then a recording came on and said to hold for the next available rep so I hung upo.
- AnnoyedJust got a call and they left a message that it was from a debt collector, but no name. I have all my bills paid and do not understand who this could be, plus I use my land line for all my bills and not my cell. I guess I will have to block this number...
- Caller: Unknown---stated debt collector; no name
- Meinnh| 2 repliesThis person called and it was a collection agency. Credit Collections is the name of the company. It was about an old debt that was paid off and they ask all kinds of financial questions. I think it's a scam. She had all the wrong information that was old information...like ten years ago. don't answer..waste of time.

- Slim replies to MeinnhA phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]
Source:
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.
IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/
If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

- Bender BobGot this voicemail from so-and-so debt collection agency. Straight [***] my pants. I have always paid my bills and have a perfect credit score. They called from 760-314-6230 (another fake no. according to my research), and told me to call them at 866-844-2358 between some pretty specific hours. Maybe I'll call them back with that "Arnold Schwarzenegger" sound board. "Hello"
"How are you?"
"IM DETECTIVE JOHN KIMBLE!!!!!!!!"

- williamOk people I need to tell everyone one here I was to a bill collector I know this works they will call everyone you know your jobs even your neighbors. Ok next time they call for you you tell them to stop contacting you and your friends your jobs and your family and you will be contacting a lawyer. So now if they still try to contact you you now go online and look for a lawyer for debt collecting to stop harassing you. I will tell you this keep a list of the numbers and dates and names every time they contact you. Your lawyer will take care the rest and you will be happy at the end.. You will have a fat check for stress..... 😄

- CarrieThere are several numbers that call, says "toll free call" on most of them, they start at 8:15 am (I never get to sleep late in the AM) and call every few hours. It's now 4:28 pm and they (or another number that says toll free) has called 5 times already. Sometimes I pick up the phone and hang it up, or pick it up and don't talk (no response) and no message on the machine if it comes on. I've googled some of the toll free numbers and one is Midland Credit Management, and people saying it's a scam, they buy up old debts or ones you have paid long ago, and try and get you to pay them now (or gives you a deal to pay less). People have said not to talk to them about it because then they can say you admit it's your debt and opens it up again. I hate to have my number changed, and think they will probably be able to get it again anyway, even unlisted nunbers they get from databases where you have to give a phone number. I don't know of any debts I owe, unless maybe I owe a book club or something for 20 or 30 years ago. I don't have credit cards and live on SS. I have had people call with unknown numbers and ask for someone who doesn't live here and have called them back and told them and they say they won't call me again, but this place (or places) doesn't leave a message. It's like they are doing it on purpose to harrrass me for some reason. I don't know if I can block the number (it's a landline) but even if I do, they use different ones.

- TrippleD replies to RubyThese scumbags are a debt collection outfit, "CMC" (It must stand for (Continually Masterbating Consequences). Two messages were left on my answering machine. The messages stated that the call was from a debt collector but did not disclose any names...at all! Not the name of the collection agency nor who the bozos were looking for! That is illegal 7 ways from Sunday! When I finally got tired of the messages and the fear that a relative or visitor may hear it and think it was a legitimate debt collector calling for me, I called the number back. A man named "Richard " finally answered the call and asked for my adult daughter who has not lived in this home nor given out this number in over 12 years. He asked me for her phone number which I refused to give (these people are using illegal tactics and not entitled to my assistance in their efforts). If my daughter does owe a debt she has not paid, which I doubt, they were illegally informing me of that debt, which is another dirty, illegal collection tactic. These creeps should do jail time, not some little insignificant "fine" the relatively few times they do get caught. The government would NEVER do that, no matter how criminally abusive these companies are, probably because there isn't a single elected official of any political party who doesn't get payoffs, oh,...right...it's called lobbying.
