THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

Also got this call today.  Poor quality call from someone saying he was with Windows.   His name was Mac and he said he was located in London.   Took me through various steps showing lots of error and warning messages on my computer management site.   Claimed this was because people were trying to hack into my computer.  He said Windows wanted to help me prevent that.  He then took me to Teamviewer and wanted me to give him remote access.  I stopped right there.   He urged me to check the legitimacy of the call by going to www.gettech-supports.com.  I terminated the call.   He called me back 10 minutes later to offer further help.   I told him to give me better assurances that this was not a scam and terminated the call.

YOU are one of the guys trying to pull off this scam!!  I can tell by what you've said AND the way you've said it!! You "simpleton", dishonest, low life piece of garbage!!! As I told you over the phone ---YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF...You have come on here to try and --- cover your tracks AND to try to continue victimizing innocent, naive people....Unfortunately I'm sure you will continue to scam people out of their personal information. BUT you luckily won't scam me! ... I was quick to pick up on the fact that MICROSOFT WOULD NEVER CALL YOU TO TELL YOU SUCH INFO....and they certainly wouldn't need me to change my settings...so you can gain access to my computer!!!! In reality YOU need us to do this...so you can infect our computers or abstract our personal information!

****PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...DO NOT DO ANYTHING THESE GUYS ASK OF YOU!!!!**** THEY WILL START BY TRYING TO GAIN YOUR TRUST AND ACT ALL CONCERNED...SAYING THAT THEY WANT TO HELP PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER FROM CRASHING AND LOSING ALL YOUR DATA, ETC... THEN THEY WILL OFFER TO WALK YOU THROUGH CERTAIN STEPS (most likely disabling "something" so they will have easier access to your computer) AND EVENTUALLY ASK FOR PERMISSION TO ACCESS YOUR COMPUTER TO....REMOVE CERTAIN VIRUSES AND ERRORS ---- DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS.....I REPEAT....DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING THESE GUYS SAY AS THE TRUTH --- IF YOU DO....YOU MOST DEFINITELY WILL REGRET IT.

WHEN POSSIBLE, WE MUST TRY TO HELP EACH OTHER AND KEEP EACH OTHER SAFE ---- FROM RUTHLESS CRIMINALS SUCH AS THESE GUYS.

Always be aware or on the alert...for "unusual" phone calls or emails...go with your "gut instinct"....if it feels wrong or suspicious -----IT IS!! Don't do as the caller asks and definitely don't open ANY suspicious emails!!!  Don't allow these types of people to make you doubt yourself --- THAT'S WHAT THEY COUNT ON!!!!

Funny how the grammar and overall message construction....is very similar to John's ! Could it be that they are ONE IN THE SAME PERSON or at least representing the same "scam"? I BELIEVE SO!!!  And why is it that --- John's comment and Peter Coles' comments are BOTH poorly executed AND in similar ways AND both are trying to convince you that this is NOT a scam???? Hmmmm..... think about it ;)  I just got off the phone with these "disgusting excuses for human beings" .... I know what I'm talking about.

AGAIN, please DO NOT do as these guys are asking....they are counting on your lack of knowledge and your natural desire to --- trust most in authority ( or in this case, believe them to be honest BECAUSE THEY ARE USING MICROSOFT'S NAME -- a well known credible company) to gain access to your computer and your personal info --- do you want these guys to have access to your back info, credit card info, emails, etc...? OF COURSE NOT!!! So DO NOT fall for their lame tactics....instead challenge them to prove their legitimacy --- you will quickly find out for yourself.... that they aren't able to  prove this --- yes, by providing a website and phone number....BUT LOOK BEYOND THAT....their "speech" has holes in it and the more questions you ask, the more they get tripped up, frustrated and hesitate when they answer....because they are trying to come up with "rehearsed" answers...and when you pick up on this ----their entire "story" FALLS APART!

I wonder if the police would be interested in investigating these "legitimate" calls....if I continue to receive them....maybe I should look into that ---- and save MANY people the aggravation and anger I just experienced (myself from them....and them....because they couldn't convince me !!! ) So I was called names, sworn at, threatened, called back repeatedly --- just because HE COULD!  PLEASE PEOPLE... these guys ARE NOT who they claim they are....DO NOT fall for their, at best, mediocre scam!!! Because who knows really, what damage they could truly do!!

Great to hear! ....that you  didn't get scammed. I do hope that most people will not fall for this....but even a few people --- is a shame! How some people can "make a living" doing this kind of thing to people is ---- beyond me! I wish there was a way to protect ourselves and others better, from "predators" like these :(
