- JudyJudyJudy| 5 repliesthey keep calling me about fraud on my visa check card, but when I check my account I don't see fraud of any kind. So I am wondering if they are just trying to get your information? Refusing to answer this number.
- Caller: Never mention name in message.
- Harold15| 1 replyThese people called me once on Saturday evening and 3 times on Sunday, beginning at 8 AM. I never answered their call, but after hearing the message they left Saturday, I unplugged my phone each time this number showed on my Caller ID on Sunday. The message left on Saturday said: 'There has been unusual activity on your Visa card with Credit Union (and they used my actual credit union name.) in the name of unintelligible (and they used my correct last name). The last four digits on your card are 4356 (not even close to the last four digits on my card). Call us back immediately and have your credit card number ready.' 'Well, I thought, why have my number ready? Don't you have it, you called me to tell me there was a problem with a specific numbered account, didn't you?' I went to my Visa's website, saw no activity since my last one several days prior, googled the phone number, found this website, then called my credit union Monday morning. They said it was someone fishing for my credit card number, they have no affiliation with the phone number or 'service' who called. My concerns: The fishers had my correct last name, my correct credit union name, and my unlisted phone number of 20+ years.
- Caller: Visa protection
- streborkbReceived a voice message from "Visa Fraud Protection Services" at this number. The wanted to verify a few potentially fraudulent charges on my credit union Visa. I called my credit union first and they VERIFIED that this IS a LEGITIMATE company that represents their Visa transactions. I called back to "Visa Fraud Protection Services" and they provided enough information to me to prove they were legitimate (they did NOT ask me to provide my credit card number, by the way. The original voice message said to 'have it handy' when I call, but they never asked for it).
They DID have access to charges I had placed on my card, but asked me about one specifically that was suspect. I verified that I did NOT make that charge and they assisted me with cancelling that card (for my protection) and referred me (gave me the ACTUAL phone number) to my own banking institution for ordering a replacement card. Note: this transaction had not even APPEARED on my online statement yet, but was pending for today - they were THAT quick in detecting fraud!
To repeat, this company LEGITIMATELY helped alert me to fraud on my account and graciously assisted me in protecting myself.
To note details again:
- my own credit union VERIFIED that they use this service
- Visa Fraud Protection Services provided ME with enough info about me to verify they were legit
- They knew of OTHER (legit) charges to my account, proving they had 'access' not simply 'fishing'
- These charges had not yet appeared online, but were 'pending'
- They ultimately referred me to my OWN banking institution, even providing me the ACTUAL phone number (which was identical to the one listed on the card in my hand).
Yes, be careful - but in this case, they actually HELPED me. All in all, I am VERY thankful for their assistance and SO glad I didn't ignore it!- Caller: Visa Fraud Protection Services
- smithYes, it is a legit number to VISA Fraud protection. I called my financial institution and verified the transactions that were pending and not yet available on line. The rep informed me that someone had gotten a hold of my information and made small transactions to see if they'd go through. She said that ultimately, they would make a big transaction if the small ones were successful. They locked my card and issued a new one. This is not something to ignore. The small transactions were approximately $5 worth.

- MLBThis comapny is LEGIT. After reading the previous posts, I contacting my Credit Union & told them of the calls I received. The Credit Union verified the use of this fraud services company and gave me the ok to return the call. When I called I did not have to give my card # (because I had the four digit case # they left on my voicemail). I found that they were verifying a purchase that really did appear suspect. I'd used my card to make two purchases at the same store within minutes of each other; the first purchase was for a much smaller than the second & that raised a red flag. I'm glad my credit union uses this service. I now know that I'll be notified immediately is something looks suspicious on my account.
- GerI received the automated message from Visa Fraud Prevention Services on a Saturday, and didn't call because I was sure it was an attempt to get my full card number. But when I asked my credit union on Monday about it, they said it was legitimate. I called and pressed 0 for a real person. I gave the case number from their message and was asked to give my name and zip code, and to provide my street name after they told me the street address number. I found out that my making several purchases in one day had looked suspicious, and they asked for confirmation of 2 purchases that I did indeed make.
I probably would have appreciated this service if there had been a real attempt to fraudulently use my card. As it was, I feel like the message they leave sounds very much like a scam, and I said so in a customer service survey they offered at the end of the call. I definitely wouldn't have called without checking with my credit union first.- Caller: Visa Fraud Protection Services
- Tim replies to JudyJudyJudyI did a search, this number is a scammer. They claim there is a issue with your card, then ask for all your personal info "to verify you are the actual cardholder". They then use that to make fake cards and sell them across the country
- Just a Careful Mom replies to JudyJudyJudy| 3 repliesI've checked; this is a legitimate phone number by a legitimate service. Add this number to your phone contacts with the title 'Fraud Prevention Services' so you'll know to answer when they call. Often, they just want to check on a purchase if something seems fishy about it.
Just last night, my older daughter received a call to verify a purchase. This time everything was okay, but she did remember having trouble at the machine. I'm glad they're keeping a close eye on our transactions. Unless you've had to go through it, you don't know the hassle of having someone skim your card.
Once, my youngest daughter (in college at the time) got the call and didn't answer because she didn't recognize the number. Because they couldn't reach her and it was pretty obvious that she couldn't have made a purchase at a store in Georgia and another purchase at a gas station in New Jersey just five minutes later with the same debit card, they froze her checking account. We were grateful that they had protected her, but she wished she had answered when they called the first time.
So, again, add 866-890-7787 to your contact list with the title 'Fraud Prevention Services' so you'll know to answer when they call. THEY ARE LEGITIMATE! - Slim replies to Just a Careful MomYou are replying to a post made in 2010, with an overly long personal story.
Why should we believe any of it?
If you KNEW that was the Visa fraud line, why did you look it up on a phone complaint site?
Lurkers:
Rather than believe an anonymous caller, do a couple of things to keep your card safe:
1) Ask THEM questions, so THEY prove who they are.
2) Even better, call the number on the back of your card ... the CSR will put you through to Security, if there is a real problem.
Be careful!
Be safe! - L.A. MullicanI received a call at 8:00 this morning. It said there was suspicious activity on my bank card. I hung up as I was unsure about the call and went on line and saw no suspicious activity. I then called the number on the back of my card and was informed a company had attempted to charge $98.00 on my account yesterday. Now the man I was speaking with was very nice but he had a foreign accent so it was difficult for me to understand him, but he really helped me. Earlier this month I ordered a free sample on line and that company was now trying to charge me $98.00 for that sample. I explained I had not agreed to that and he assured me it would not be charged to me and gave me a number to contact that company and advised me to tell them to immediately remove my name and baking information from their records. I called the number and the man I spoke with said I had agreed to this charge, that it was not a free sample, and I had fourteen days to return it if I did not want it and I had not returned it. He said all this was in my confirmation they sent me. It was not. I saved my confirmation and it says nothing of the sort, and the packing information that came with the sample did not reflect this either. He tried to intimidate me but I held my ground and repeated several times to remove my name and banking information, and he finally said it would be removed and gave me a cancellation number. I am grateful now for the call I received and glad I decided to check with my credit union to verify.

- GladTheyCalledThis is a legitimate call from VISA fraud prevention services. Called me to verify some charges to my account. Several charges were not mine. My identity had been stolen. They got my debit card numbers and a total of 14 charges had been made on my account wiping out my checking account balance and overdrawing it. If they had not called it could have been many more days and many more charges before I knew what was going on. I went to the bank the next day and was able to stop them and got a refund for all the fraudulent charges. THANK YOU VISA FRAUD PREVENTION SERVICES.

- Jim replies to Just a Careful Mom| 1 replyThese replies are from the scammers themselves. I checked with my bank and they have never used these people. Repeat... These are from the scammers. The FBI will find them and they will spend time in prison. You don't screw around with the banking system without paying for it.
