Was left on Voice mail by a ?? James Jude ??, in Accounts  saying he would be in his office until 12 midnight:

Called back today : GMAC: asking for my account or SSN  I said?? what who is this.... They asked if we had an account with GMAC..

This is a GMAC collections phone number.  I pray that they do not call you errantly.  They have been calling my cell phone for months (4 times a day) looking for Melvin Smith.  I have probably spoken with 20 different people in this office to inform them they have a wrong number.  They are not intelligent enough to remove it from their database and are still calling.  If anyone knows where the actual office location is, please post it.  I have names for several of these idiots and fully intend to look up their home phone numbers and call them several times a day just so I can tell them that I am not Melvin Smith :)

Jason: Some years ago I had a similar experience. I tried explaining nicely a few times. I finally screamingly threatened that with their next call I was calling my lawyer to discuss a harassment suit. The next message left was an apology and I never heard from them again. I suspect it may have been a matter that this was the number on their files, but that the previous owner of the number had long ago moved or changed numbers and never informed them. (I would also get calls from people finding the family dog and instructions for little league treats.)All came back tonight when I googled this "800" number after receiving a message for someone not at this residence "regarding a personal matter." Thanks for the GMAC information. Now I've a better idea how to approach this if I decide to call back and attempt to correct the error. Good luck on your end, too!

Oh no, was I just scammed? Are they a real company or should I keep a check on my credit report? They called and I gave them my social because a few years ago, we did have an account with GMAC, but now I am a little scared. A Christopher Washington called my house from GMAC. When I gave them my SSN. They said I didn't have an account with them, so am I safe or should I worry?
