- jr| 5 repliesThis call was received 6-19-2008 at about 4:00PM Central time.
Said they were going to send me either $40 or $50 in free gas vouchers, Dining Benefits, & Medical Benefits. She kept trying to get me to say OK which I never did. The girl said her name was Kim & her ID # 29865. She said that everything was free & that she was not selling anything. Asked me for the expiration date on my charge card & the type of card because she needed that to send me the free gas vouchers. I stupidly gave that information. Said all I would have to pay was $2.95 shipping & handling for all my free stuff. I told her that I was not going to pay anything for something that was free. When I asked, they gave me their phone number as 1-866-916-8814 & company name as Caller Advantage. She told me to keep my charge card in front of me because I would need it.
She then transferred me to someone else who I assume was the closer who asked me for my card number. I told her that I was not giving it out. I repeatedly refused her insistance, & she finally just hung up.
Both women had an accent that was hard to understand. I think they were in India although they said that they were in California.- Caller: Caller Advantage
- terri, in Indiana replies to jrI received a similar call from Caller Advantage. The man I talked to was also from India. Could hardly understand him. He said his name was Shawn Johnson. He said he was calling from Phoenix, AZ. Basically, he said I was going to receive a $50 gas card because I was a valued Visa Customer. I had my doubts right from the start but I just let him talk. Wanted me to get my Visa card and tried really hard to get me to give him my account number. I told him I was not comfortable giving my card number over the phone. He insisted that he already had my card number, he just needed me to verify it. They could'nt send their $50 gas card through the mail without having my number to verify that they were sending it to the right person. I repeatedly told him I was not going to give him my card number and hung up. He called me back, trying very had to convince me. Finally I asked him for his number, he said that after I gave him my card number that I would be transferred to someone and that they would give me their number. Finally, I just told him I wasn't interested and hung up.
- socalokie| 1 replyA person from caller advantage called and offered a value coupon book with many great things and savings and it would cost only 2.95 for shipping and handling and they would just bill my credit card # that they had and just needed to verify the number. They were told no thank you and i hung up. I went on vacation and while gone they billed it anyway

- kiki| 1 replyJust received a call similar to the ones above. I told them I would not give them my credit card and would send them a money order only. They said the address is Caller Advantage, 401 McKinney Street, Phoenix AZ 75238.

- gwynI also recieved a phone call, almost identical to the one jr received, with Kim being the representative and offering $50 worth of free gas vouchers. The companies name was "Caller Advantage", but I did not think to ask for a number or address. However, my caller id gave this number: 602-516-1114 from "unknown name" Just as with jr, she asked for the type and expiration date of my debit card, which I also gave. As things progressed, she asked for my card number, which I refused to give. She then told me that the number could not be used without the 3 digit number on the back, but I told her I was not interested and would not give her my number. She became argumentative with me, and I hung up. Like jr's person, she spoke with a foreign accent.

- unknown| 2 repliesI just had a similiar call from someone with a india sounding accent. Said his name was Kevin Ray and gave me his id number. He also asked me for a visa #. I didn't give him one. I don't have caller id so I don't know where he was calling from.
- RobertI also just received a call from someone at "Caller Advantage". They were asking for $2.95 for shipping and handling so they could UPS me a $50 gift card to the gas station of my choice. They had my name, phone number and address which is easy to get since it's in the phone book so I felt comfortable with them at the beginning but they asked me for my expiration date of my card and what type it was. They then asked for my account number and I refused to give it out, they kept telling me that they couldn't do anything with it since they needed my 3 digit code on the back which I just don't believe, true or not, I believe anyone can do damage with your card number. The person then told me their company name, "Caller Advantage" and said they were BBB accredited. (Better Business Bureau) This red-flagged me so I figured I'd do a quick google search to find out some info while on the phone, sure enough, the only info that comes up is this page here. I became immediately uncomfortable and told them I'd like to call them back after I did some research, they refused to give me their contact number, they gave me a number (which was on my caller ID, 623-238-6256) but they said they would just call me back tomorrow once I was more comfortable. I then called the BBB and they do not have Caller Advantage in their listing, the fact that I googled them and came up with nothing tells me something is not right. Also, they kept telling me that I could use a pre-paid card from like my local supermarket but at this point, it's not worth the $50 for a possible identity theft, I don't care if it's not possible to get my info off a bought card, $50 is not worth it.

- Tim Roelofs| 1 replyI just talked to "Caller Advantage". They told me they are located in Phoenix AZ. The first person said her name is Jenni. I really could hardly understand her. Her Indian accent was very strong, she talked very fast, and she was very pushy. After agreeing that a free $50.00 gas card or voucher would be nice she put me on with someone else. Mark Robinson id #30232 is a nice Indian. He's from North India, 41 yrs old, and he has a girlfriend. when he let me speak to his girlfriend I spoke with Pheobe. Pheobe is a nice Indian woman from a Southern Indian village. But she is not Marks' girlfriend!! Apearantly, Mark flirts with all the girls!! And he was a little upset with me because I told Pheobe that Mark said they were lovers and now Pheobe is upset wit him! Sorry Mark!! I apologized because maybe I crossed a line, but he should not have lied. I think he has an inter-office crush on Pheobe. He told me that is not the case and he can freek on any girl he wants!! So anyways when I tell them that my wife won't give me the credit cards they get a little frusterated and they
say they are going to transfer me to their "manager". The next person I speak to is Cyrus. He says he's from the U.K., but I'm not believing the Indian accent. My wife, who by this time is listening in on the other phone, is from Bermudia. She said he didn't sound British. When I told him this he explained that he went through training to speak this way. As
I get bounced from person to person, Jenni interupts and gets very rude. They finnally hung up when I told Jenni that she is being very rude and I don't want to speak to her! When I prodded for more informatoin it became
evident that this is a scam to get credit card numbers. When I asked for a web site Mark told me it is "under construction". I googled it anyways and found this one. If you have some time to waste, Mark and Pheobe are nice fellas to talk to but Jenni is a real [***]! Anyways if I find any questionable things on our credit or debit cards I'm contacting our lawyers office. I love a good lawsuit!- Caller: caller advantage

- Lori in TampaI also just received a call from someone at "Caller Advantage". They were asking for $2.95 for shipping and handling so they could UPS me a $50 gift card to the gas station of my choice. They had my name, phone number and address already and wanted me to confirm it was correct. The man I talked to had a very strong Indian accent and spoke very fast. He continued to repeat his drivel over and over and at the end of each sentence he would say "Do you understand?" And I would say "Yes, you want me to walk on my lips through broken glass, Shave off my eyebrows and dye my hair hot pink, Right? To this my Indian friend from Phoenix, AZ responded, "Yes of course ma’m now can you verify your home address as.... (my old address)". So I said “No I have moved my new address is ...1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Washington DC…..” “OK ma’m. So can I transfer you to my supervisor to verify your information?” “So I said Absolutely!”…… I guess Manager John from Phoenix, AZ does understand English…..and he was not amused. He hung up and didn’t even say “Good Bye” . I wonder when my $50.00 gas card for my local supermarket is going to get here? I can’t wait!

- Sher| 2 repliesA man calling from "Caller Advantage" offered me a $100 gas gift card plus a $25 dining card -- if I confirmed my address and gave him a number from a "shopping card or gift card or VISA or other card" to cover the $4.95 postage fee. He had an Indian accent and claimed Caller Advantage was a legitimate company with an address in Pheonix AZ and the website of vba.com. When I questioned why the postage would be so high when you could send two gift cards for the price of a 42 cent stamp, he said they are also collecting a donation. For whom? "One dollar for the Red Cross!" And the rest for processing.
He said he would give me a tracking number and an 800 number AFTER I gave him my "card" -- "any plastic card" number. I offered my library card number, since that's a plastic card, but no, he didn't mean "that kind of card." He thought that was pretty funny.
He kept talking and I kept saying "I'm sorry, but I don't believe you. I don't think you're being honest." He offered to transfer me to his supervisor, but I told him, "I'm going to hang up now."- Caller: Caller Advantage
- Kate replies to SherVirtually the same conversation, one day later. And if you read under the posting for number 602-516-1114, on July 30, there it is again! Again, "Alan" offered a $100 gas card good at any station in the US plus a $25 gift voucher good at any "popular" restaurant in my state. He assured me I could wait until the package arrived in 4 days before I paid the $4.95, but "his manager" "Lee" needed the payment up front. I argued the 42 cent angle, too, by the way! He said, "well, it's coming from Arizona," to which I informed him that the first class mail rate from AZ was 42 cents also. He said the $4.95 was a handling fee. (Must be a heavy voucher!)
I told Lee that I don't give out my credit card on the phone, and he recommended that I go out to purchase a prepaid gift card with a MC or Visa logo on it, and that he'd call me back in 4 hours, since they don't work tomorrow, Sunday. He even said "God bless you," to me at he end of the conversation.
"Lee" also gave me the www.smartshopper web site as their home company. He located his company in Phoenix, AZ, although the number from which they called was in NJ (908-842-9148).
I was told that I'd be given the security code for the gas card after I gave them the credit card info. They had my name and address in front of them, obvious because the form of my name that I stated was a nick name, and he spelled it back to me as my correct legal name, which has variable spellings.
Let's see how many times they try to call back, if I let the phone ring this afternoon. - Cass replies to jr| 2 repliesI recieved the same phone call same number. I agreed to be charged the 2.95 to recieve the package with the gas vouchers.
Then knowing how this system works I watched and waited to see what was going to be charged to my account.
Another company charged me 2.48 twice as the activation fee for these offers. Which are considered unauthorized to my account, because I only authorized the 1 fee of 2.95 nothing else. There was another offer for some type of health insurance, with a one time activation fee of 29.95 then a monthly fee, to which I declined. So far I have not seen a charge for that.
When I noticed those extra fee's I contacted the company that charged me. 8666914944 is the customer service. They refunded the charges and no further charges would be applied.
Then I contacted my bank.
Now because of those two charged I got an overdraft charge.
I only keep money in the bank that I know I'm going to spend. The rest I put away. So because these charges where unexpected and unauthorized.
I contacted My bank, they told me that that the company that made the unauthorized charges are held responsible for the overdraft charge as well.
I called the customer service back, and Spoke to Manager Lisa, the customer service said they where not responsible for the overdraft charge.
However that they would investigate the phone call. We shall see what happens now.
I am preparring to call the company that origanlly contacted me to have a listen for that sales pitch. From what I recall and apparently many other people say is that they where ONLY going to be charged 2.95 which was my impression as well. Hopefully everyone else will get there money back too.
And we can put a stop to this telemarketing fraud.
Advise for other people. When you get the phone call, listen, get the name and agent ID of the sales person, plus the date, and phone number make sure you know exactly what your getting charge for. If you decide to accept, and if you don't still get the information because if you do get charged like the other people. Then you have all the informtion of the agent who sold you (or didn't) and now they know who to fire. These people offend get a base hourly pay. Plus a commission for how many "clubs" they sell, and being that they are desperate for the money they will sell you even when you said NO. There is a Quality Control and calls are recorded to prevent the fraudulant sales. Which are not always caught before the customer gets charge after charge. Now the best thing is to remain calm with these people. The do not know what is going on they will help you the best that they can. Do not get anger with them just explain and try to deal with it the best you can. Talk to you bank if it's any help and also explain to them whats going on and that you do not want any further charges coming from these people.
Then after that well you may want to file a police report for the fraud. - Cass again replies to Martin| 6 repliesPlease read first comment I made ealier
Ok I just got done speaking with the 8669168814 (that was on my bank statement) which is the Caller Advantage third party customer service line for the company that called and offered the package of the 2.95.
Now anyone who recieved a phone call from this company to sell you the 2.95 package, to which you where only expecting that 2.95 charge to recieve it then the what ever charge after the trial and you did not call and cancel. But currently your being charged for these other offers is because, as it was explained to me, there are addition shipping charges for each package that are included in that package that you recieve for that 2.95. Which there are up to 5 promotions, each with there own shipping fee, own membership program, there own policies, there own cancellation phone numbers, there own trial periods. Some 10 days, some 14 days, and some 21 days.
The thing is that the telemarketers who sold you this package are not informing you about the additional charges of the other promotions that are included in that 2.95 package.
In other words Call your lawyers. - Cass 3 replies to Cass againOh and just so everyone knows. I never gave my credit card number, not the expieration date, not even the ccid, apparently they already had it from buying stuff at some other company. (I wonder who?)
I'm in the process of filing a report with the bbb and the federal trade commissions. This has turned into a headache but I do intend on resolving this and either having them straighten up there act and or sending them under.

- WillThey called from an "Unknown Number" for 3 weeks with all hangups. Finally, this morning I spoke with someone, and they offered me a $150 gift card to any of the major gas stations. They had the last 4 numbers on my credit card, my home address, obviously my phone number, and my full name.
I gave no information, and the man on the phone hung up on me. I called AMEX about this "phishing" venture, and they said that no AMEX marketing does that. I gave the customer service rep the 1-866-916-8814 number, and he called them. He said that immediately upon answering the call he was asked to be placed on hold and then hung up on. The customer service rep flagged my account, I called the FTC filed an identity theft report, and started a 90-day fraud alert with the credit bureaus.
