I keep getting calls from this number about student loans and they leave messages to call back about my payments. When I do and select the appropriate option it says the number isn't supported in my area and hangs up. It's just a complete annoyance.

Same as Julie...I get a message from a "Betty Thompson" about student loan payment plans. They request a call back about my payments options. When you call the number she references to call back (866-936-8188) you get an operator message saying "the number you dialed cannot be reached from your calling area".

Same as above. However, I don't have any student loans. So I know it's fraud.

Same here, good ole Bettys got it down, acts like she's in the middle of the message as if the first part about what the Company is and starts with her name. pretty smooth, but what good is it if you never speak to anyone? They are all trying to buy your loans and charge like .25% less than your paying now plus adding closing costs. Hey Betty TAKE A HIKE!

Betty Thompson called to discuss my federal student loans about my repayment options. Although she called me from a different number she told me to call 866-936-8188 with my reference number. The problem with all of this, is that I don't have student loans.

Betty called me from 5749318723 and then asked me to call 8669368188 and use a reference number. I didn't call her back though. I didn't like her tone.

Thank you all for putting this info out there, I am busy and she sounded legit. Tough to find time for calling scammers back when I'm scrubbing for surgery

Same as others.  Betty Thompson called from 509-844-9482.  Left a message with a reference number and asked me to call back at 866-936-8188.  Searched the number and found this thread.  I won't be calling back based on what I read here.

Betty wants to help with my student loans... About 3 years ago, the school I graduated from closed its doors because of loan fraud problems. I kept getting notifications that loan forgiveness was available, so I tried to connect with those offering, but apparently they aren't interested in you if you owe less than 10K. I owed 6. Most of those chumps that are buying out student loans would flat out hang up on me. No explanation giving. But last year I was applying for a mortgage, and I paid off my loan entirely to bring my debt ratio down. Thanks, no thanks Betty.

Received a call identified from Fayetteville, Tennessee, number 931-240-6892. Caller identified herself as Betty Thompson, leaving voice message with similar content as other reports mentioned, above. Very legitimate sounding, however, no information contained as to who I was, particularly casual greeting, “Yea, Hi...” and then dialogue.
So, we’ve gone from Cigna/Blue Cross Solicitors, and people calling wanting to know if I receive Medicare or asking if I’ve ever had back/knee problems, so I can purchase a back brace, to this?
I check ever foreign number out on the Internet, which usually ends up being either a solicitor, or a scammer.
Don’t have time for either one!

    Just a few tips:
If they don't mention what company they are with, it's a scam.
If they mention a company but can't give you any information about your specific loans, it's a scam.
If they give you a "reference number" it is likely a scam.

Generally your loan company won't contact you unless you are behind on a payment.  So long as you are making payments and they are getting interest they are happy.
