- Fed-up| 7 repliesThese clowns have been phoning for weeks now, two or three times per day. They are too slow mentally to figure out that we will never answer their calls no matter how many times they phone. If you dial the number shown on your call display, a woman's recorded voice will inform you that you have reached the EMS contact center and that they are trying to reach you regarding the Comparaction long distance phone service. She also informs you that they WILL call back. I googled the Comparaction website and it appears to be linked somehow with the CAA. That means that one of the "benefits" of paying good money to be a CAA member is to have non-stop JUNK phone calls from these losers.

- Colin D replies to Fed-upThey just started pestering me too.
I fortunately have Call Blocking with Rogers. - frances replies to Fed-up| 5 repliesJust be sure you don't let them give you their "talk". One of their sales people phoned me a few weeks ago, and I made the mistake of letting him ramble on and on about their program; I made the even bigger mistake of asking a few questions in a futile attempt to clarify what he was saying. None of it made much sense, but I let him finish his pitch before signing off. I thought that was the end of it; I wasn't interested, as I was getting a much better long distance rate with my regular phone company. However, a few weeks later they started BILLING me! When I called to tell them I had never agreed to sign on to their service, they said no signature was necessary. I told them I had never instructed them to sign me up, and further, even if I had, there was no subsequent verification process, i.e., a follow up phone call, as is the norm with most phone companies. I was told that ComparAction doesn't do this; they enroll on a "verbal agreement", and my agreement to listen was understood as my agreement to enroll. Given that they now insist I'm their client, I'm thinking I may need to contact the VPs at CAA to lodge a complaint re this company's unorthodox recruiting process!

- AlWhat ticks me off is they call here and I have registered with the do not call thingy! If you have a modem, you can get a program called "phone tray" and use it with call display to block these kind of idiots.
- SSSGreport the scam to PhoneBusters
- mrs gochayThey've been calling me every day for some time now. I don't answer these unknown calls because I can't force myself to be nice. We've enrolled with the Do Not Call registry so this whole thing just P*SSES me off too much! Are they really associated with the CAA?
- JReceived several calls from them today. Didn't answer. I've filed a complaint with the CRTC via the Do Not Call list.
- Caller: Unknown Name
- AliI have been getting the same calls. When I answer, I either hear nothing, or there's a long pause and somebody says "Hello" and then we're cut off. Thanks to this page, I was able to check out ComparAction and confirmed that yes, they are affiliated with CAA. I also see they're hooked up to Scotiabank Visa. I am a customer of both.
So I called CAA's customer service line (1-800-268-3750) and said I didn't want to receive these calls any more. The agent took my membership number and said the calls would be stopped. If the calls continue, I'll try calling Scotiabank as well.- Caller: ComparAction

- JI'm getting frequent calls from them. I answered today. No one at the other end. I hung up.
Called my local CAA. They patched me through to ComparAction. Automated message requesting that I enter my phone number. No live person. It simply repeats the request over and over again. I'm currently in conversation with a CAA rep. Apparently, there is an option to "Opt out" of CAA sharing my information with any affiliates. For those in South Central Ontario, and have a CAA memebership, you can go to their privacy site to request the opt out option.

Other ComparAction phone numbers to call:
866-881-1788 (I got an automated message)
866-217-7333 (I got an automated message but if you wait long enough, someone will come on the phone)
Made a verbal request to be taken off their calling list. I made it very clear I did not agree to any agent in providing long distance service. I made it clear to have my phone number taken off their calling list. I gave them my name and phone number.
Hopefully, this will be the end of those calls.- Call type: Telemarketer
- AnnoyedWe have been getting calls daily sometimes several times a day. When you answer no one is there. If you don't answer they leave no message. I looked the number up on line and found that they are annoying everyone with their constant calling and they are affiliated with CAA. So, I sent
e-mail to 'privacy@caasco.ca' requesting that they have the calls stopped. Having a CAA membership should not cause us to be annoyed by telemarketers from ComparAction or any other organization.- Caller: ComparAction

- Tamara replies to francesThis situation just happened to me as well. I just called Primus to find out why my long distance was not working on my residential line. They informed me that it had been taken over by another company in October /08. Last week we had a message on our machine from Comparaction saying we owed 6 mos. long distance. We never even received a bill--we had no inkling of what they had done. My husband said he had spoken to someone from CAA Comparaction about long distance; he told them we were happy with Primus; however, they insisted that they could give us a free quote with no obligation to us. He said okay. Now, I am going to complain to the CRTC, Consumer Protection Agency, and anyone else I can think of. What scam artists!
- satisfiedi do agree at first it was pestering because no one answered when i picked up and there were no messages just dead air.finally i decided to listen and just say not interested. i woman i spoke to was so sweet, compared to what i was paying i was saving 5.00 a month plus the free cell phone minutes help me rogers was charging too much for long distance i get 30 minutes free and 5 cents a minute after every month.i am really happy with the comparaction.im glad i listened cause bell was over charging me and i have 3 plans instead of one working for me .i dont pay if i dont use.im sorry u all have a bad experience but i am loving the program.
- fox04 replies to frances| 1 replyHi frances. I was wondering if you were able to do anything about these scam artists? They put a block on our phone line because I wouldn't pay them any longer after I phoned them and told them I was going with someone else. They said I had to phone Telus as he chuckled to discontinue their service so I phoned Telus and Telus said I had to phone them so that's when I stopped paying. I have tried getting every agency known to man in Canada to have the block removed from our phone but no one seems to be able to do anything about it. I even contacted our MLA and the Prime Minister of Canada, Steven Harper's office. Apparently these seemingly low lifes are working out of Montreal so I contacted the BBB in Montreal and they are now contacting ComparAction for me. These 'people' do NOT want to communicate with you by email as there is black and white evidence of what they are up to. They want only to talk to you on the phone. Don't ever give them your credit card number. We had to get new ones so they would quit debiting them. Can't believe they are in Canada hood winking the public like this and seemingly nothing can be done about it.
We were away last week one day and a culprit phoned saying that ComparAction had been discontinued last September. That seems a little odd as that was when I phoned them and told them I no longer needed their service. Please let me know what has happened with you in this matter. - John O'NeillI cancelled them weeks ago by reconnecting with Telus on long distance, now i get a bill on my visa with with no request call answered and saying ok sign me up again, they just did it without asking
- Caller: COMPARACTION
- DeeMy lovely husband signed us up for Comparaction and they charged our visa account...when I realized what it was I had my husband phone to cancel it. He has phoned 3-4 times and they still charge our account...stupid move on his part to give out that information...they keep saying we'll be taken off and we still haven't! I phoned again today and if that don't do it I will disconnect my phone, don't need a land line anyway.

- SidneyComparative took over my long distance service without authorization then demanded money for six months of service. I have no account with them, never re dived an invoice yet they blocked my service. Bullied into giving them a payment they still will not unblock my service. This is a scam. stay away! And do not allow CARP to give out your info to third parties.

- Sidney replies to fox04They are still operating. Scamming and demanding money for an unauthorized service.
- RichardI received one of the infamous Comparaction solicitation calls. Received a confirmation email that I am now enrolled. I haven't made a long-distance phone call in over a decade so I'm not expecting to be charged for anything. I did not leave my credit card number. The thing that troubles me, in reading some of the logged entries is the fact they have the ability to block my phone service as a means to extort money. This should be illegal. What if there was an emergency and I needed to contact the appropriate authorities? I will now attempt to cancel.
