- justinYa, got calls every day threatening to come to my place of employment if I don't call them back. Never gave me information about what the call was about. I ignored them after a w hile .& they finally gave up after I threatened then with a call from my attorney.
- KatieI get calls from this number (and a million other phone numbers) from a couple different guys claiming to be a police officer one day and then a lawyer the next. They sometimes threatens to serve me with a subpoena if I don't give them my credit card number. I tell them I welcome a subpoena so that I can have something in writing in order to know what the hell they think I owe money for. No one ever shows up. They also call my family members telling them all sorts of random/crazy things. I can't figure out what these people are all about but I do believe I smell a scam! DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!! Please!
- NathanGot a phone call from them today. A guy named Jeffrey asking for me (asked for me by first and last name)
He said he had a file in front of him, and needed to speak to me ASAP. I hate collection agencies these days. No class, and for them to threaten somebody with a lawsuit/jail time is in itself against the law. I won't call them back, don't have time for their non-sense.- Call type: Debt collector

- Jayson replies to l.wSame thing happened to me. calls my friends and relatives and myself a couple of times a day. They refuse to give any information on the phone unless you provide them with your DOB, etc. Do not give them any information. Report them to the FTC and state attorney general office. NY state has shut down many of these companies operation in the Buffalo area. I guess this is one of them they missed!
- Daniel's momA woman calling from this number 1-866-949-6602, just called my ex-husband stating that my son Daniel have a pending case and even gave him a case #, that he needs to call this number with two forms of ID, I am sure they later will ask for a credit card and/or SSN. These people are stupid! Why if they have a case against my son they call my ex, Ah! I guess they needed to get the information they didn' have by looking for the same last name and then start bugging... I am ready for them. My son has learning disabilities and and I know he is in no kind of trouble! I also know that nobody from an office in Bexar County is going to call from a 1-866 number. I keep thinking how these people can go to sleep at night after scamming people, they need to go to work and earn their money just like any decent human being!!

- SP| 2 repliesI received a call today from Tracy. She gave me a case number and said she had documents under my name and social security number. That I would be served by service with a certified notice of intent for a case# at my place of employment or home. To contact the clients office directly at if I had any concerns at 866-949-6202. She said she would be out next week when I am going to be served, and that she didn't have an exact date yet that I would be served but she would let me know. Sounds very fishy to me.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - Elspeth replies to SP| 1 replyAgain, no one gets a heads up they'll be served. The process server just shows up! (In some cases, you'd receive the court summons via certified or registered mail.) To get to that point, though, you would have received numerous dunning letters from a debt collector, or lawyer working on their behalf. Debt collection is a process. You don't find out you've got a lawsuit against you via phone call.
See my post above, with information from the FTC about "fake" debt collectors. Never pay any caller who refuses to mail proof of debt/proof they can collect, to you. That's your right per federal law.
