debt collector called my brother looking for me. this is not legal.

A guy just called looking for my father-in-law.  Refused to tell me his business, so I refused to give dad's phone number. Googled the caller ID number - (770)916-9220 and the toll free (866)949-6996.  Looks like a big, illegal scam.  I won't be giving the message.  If he calls again, I'll screen the call or play dumb.

If you get a call from this phone number, its a debt collector agency titled "law Offices of Frederick J. Hanna & Associates.  Send them a "stop calling letter."  By law, your stop calling request must be made in writing for it to be enforceable.  Send it by certified mail or fax it and keep a copy for proof.

So this lady has been calling for the last month EVERYDAY looking for someone who does not even live here.  We insisted that she never call again...but they have continued.  What should I do?  She claims to be a bill collector...

A lady with a real thick Mexican accent called from 404-525-3458 and left a message.  I was told to call 866-949-6996.  I called them and another person asked for my name and phone number.  I told them I was not giving my name and they said my number did not show in their records.  I will wait for the Mexican to call back.

I really don't understand those collectors. If one has money, one will pay the debt. Otherwise, no matter how many calls, they will get nothing. Why don't they just go to the court?

Actually, yes it is. Unfortunately, debt collectors are allowed to call your neighbors and relatives in order to contact you.

The guy who posted above saying that it's legal for collectors to call neighbors and family members is INCORRECT.  There is something called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - they are not allowed to call you for somebody else.  This person called one of our employees - i told him i dont take personal messages & to call his house.  He said he already left a message at his house - I said GOOD and hung up

I got a call form this company too. They bypassed my voicemail somehow and hide their name from Caller-ID. I called them back and they say they have no records for me. They deal with Americans exclusively...and I'm Canadian!  They wanted my name address and Social, I said No!  They won't remove my number from their calling list, as they claim they have no record on me! Crooks!

Received calls from this number almost every other day non-stop since July, very annoying and I do not owe ant debt at all.

I thought this was my daughter (didn't have my glasses on) so I picked up the cell call.  It was some woman's voice from far away.  She spoke so softly it was unintelligible.  I got this much: "****** calling everyone****** area******** update******database*****"  -- I think.  It was hard to make out.  Figuring it was another sales call from people wanting to sell me business services,I told her she had the wrong number and hung up on her.  Then I Googled the number and came up with this website.   How annoying.
