- Jay| 12 repliesGot a call today stating that they are calling from an Attorney's Office and I have 24 hours to pay a 6 year old debt and if it is not paid then they will file and have someone to pick me up.
- Caller: Fredrick's, Goldstein & Zoe
- Call type: Debt collector
- ScamsquasherSame as other entries.
Claimed to represent attorney's office - Marsha replies to Jay| 6 repliesI recieved a call just like you and they also called my grandmothers house and my parents house. They stated they would have be picked up by the police because of a debt to Verizon phone service from 6 years ago. I just recieved another stating they are taking me to court and I have a court date in 2 days! I don't know what to believe or do with this matter.

My bank said they didnt hire this co I talk to someone who identified himself as investigater James Kelly. I think its a scam. the number I called back 1-866-949-9484.

- Melvin replies to JayThis same company left a message on my Parent's home phone # saying that I had 24 huors to respond and that I had a court appearance in the county live in, which is in Texas. There was anohter company just like this that did the same thing once at my Parent's number and once at my Sister-in-Law's home number. Scared both of them to death. The previous company operated out of Buffalo, NY and there are 100's of complaints just like this. Probably the same company. These people must really think I am so stupid as to believe I have a court appearance without even being served papers. Don't they know in Texas, consumer laws are very strong and there is no such thing as debtor's prison.
- Hornet replies to Richetta| 2 repliesThis is the same ones that called my house on April 8 - same number. I am furious!
- Hornet replies to Hornet| 1 replySome idiotic oaf making the initial phone call and leaving a "shake-up" message with a case number to entice one to call back.
Of course being the ever-inquisitive and angry person that I am, I decided to indulge. I mean, after all, they invaded my space by leaving some crazy message. After this waste answers the phone, the b#tch gets on the line for the "hard close" and accuses you of everything - trying to scare you - ooooooooHHHH!
I just need a few minutes face-to-face with this nutria..//What has this world come to? I can't believe any reputable company would really hire them for collection...it's gotta be a scam/identity theft ring. 866-949-9484. Where is Tony Soprano when you need him?!
They should be executed! What Pu$$ie$!!!!!
H - Al replies to Jay| 1 replyI filed a complaint with the FCC. These people sound more like ACORN than jewish attn's. I advise all to do the same.
- Debbie replies to Marsha| 5 repliesThis is not a scam, They are infact a debt collection agency that does infact have the power to pursue these deficits threw the civil courts, and I think people are misinterpreting the whole court date thing, Its in reference to a court filing which means the paperwork will be filed that day, not that you have a court date that day. Anyways, Just wanted to let you guys know, Its not a scam, they just have the power to actually pursue these now to have judgements, leans and reposesions. Just trust me........ It happened to me!!!! The laws on outstanding debt have changed, and it's not in favor or the debtor!!!!
- Billy replies to HornetThese people called a family member leaving a message saying they are taking me to court. It sounds like the same story as all of you. They resemble another company out of Buffalo, New York called Graham Noble and associates who have earned an F- with BBB. Be careful.
- SteveThey also just called today for my wife and left a bunch of garbage to call within 24 hours with a file number etc. but they did not say what it was supposed to be for
- Caller: Unknown

- Frustrated| 2 repliesMy sister clear across the country got a call from this number trying to reach me. Now, I've not lived in that state for over 10 years and when I talked to the caller they said they knew the county of my current residence....hence the immediate legal action they were preparing for.
I spoke with a David Hernandez, of Fredericks and Goldstein, a law office. Anytime I asked for any information from him I was put on hold for several moments/minutes. I was given this contact address for the company: 44 Bristol Street, Canandaigua, New York, 14224. Now, the zip code is for Buffalo and when I searched the address I found listing for 3 other businesses, none of which were law offices.
It took some time for him to agree to email me any information he could give me and I have yet to get an email from him. They are quite insistent upon "bonding" the account....which basically gives them an account number.
At one point he stated they had papers filed with my county and when asked later he said they hadn't filed yet. There wasn't any record with my county's court offices...I called them all.
I'm following Dave Ramsey's advice and if I can't get something by mail, in writing, etc. I'm not doing anything about this. And according to him never ever give anyone your account information. If they can't wait for a certified check, of which you have a copy, then they're not legit.
And I found it quite fishy that he didn't ask for my current contact information....when apparently he wasn't able to call my home phone to leave the message or send me a letter. He only asked for an email address.
This SCREAMS scam to me.- Caller: Fredericks and Goldstein
- Call type: Debt collector
- Frustrated replies to Frustrated| 1 replyAn update....I did get them to send me a document via email stating the debt amount, etc. Very basic document that took them over 2 hours to come up with.
Anyway, I looked up the address they gave: 44 Bristol St, Canandaigua, NY 14424 and it's actually an accountant's office. I actually called them to verify that this firm wasn't in their building or complex and it isn't.
The fax number on their 'document' is: 716 507-8476 which is apparently a Buffalo, NY number (93 miles from where their office is supposed to be).
So, nothing's checking out. - Allison| 1 replyReceived a call and my mother gave me the message regarding a court case. I called back and the woman, Casey, asked what I wanted to do about this. I told I had no clue what it was about. She told about a card that I didn't remember having from 2001. She also said she would pull my credit report to see if it was on my credit. I asked her what did pulling my credit had to do with this account if they already had the so called information.
I asked if she could mail information to me. She said she could fax or email it. I told her that I did not want her to pull my credit, I didn't have a fax number and I wasn't giving her my personal email address. At that point she told me to give her a call when I was ready to do something about this account and hung up on me.
When I called back to speak with Casey, a gentleman answered the phone. He was equally as rude as Casey. He said that they had sent out the information 2 times to the address I wanted them to send it. They would not send it out again. At that time I was quite upset and firmly let them know that since I have not recieved the information and I have not agreed that this is an account that I owe. I also mentioned that in this day and age of idenity theft they should want to send the iformation so that I can verify whether or not it is my account.
He said he sent it twice they would not send it again that he would just take me to court and let the judge see what kind of person I am. Then he told me to never call his office again, and hung up on me.
I felt like something wasn't right and googled the number. I knew it was strange when the people who answered the phone never said the office I was called or identified themselves. I glad I did some research. I was very shocked to see how recent many of these phone calls have been made. I guess they figured they could get people's income tax refund. Well the judge will have to order me to sign mine over on an alleged 8 year old debit. - Hornet replies to DebbieCan't do anything to you if they don't have the correct information on you. They tried so hard to get our social security number - I couldn't believe it! I mean if it's not you, it's not you!
- Consumer replies to DebbieIn reference to your comment, they are not even with the BBC, and a letter was sent to me from their office with their address, the address is another business address, not theirs. Never give out your credit card info to anyone on the phone. If they are going to send someone to court let them, but do not give your credit card info to them.
- Consumer replies to AllisonSame exact situation happened to me.
- Mistie| 2 repliesI also received one of these calls from the same number. Only the call was for my uncle who we haven't talked to in years...and they called my mother's house. This is my estranged father's brother they are calling for! Why the heck would they call my mother's house when she has nothing to do with him?
Anyhow, I used to work in the legal department of a California collection agency called NCA. I ended up getting fired because I voiced my opinion that I thought the way they talked to debtors was illegal. They will say anything they can to get you to pay. I have heard threats from collectors telling people they will come over to their house and punch them in the face! (Which is totally illegal.) I know in California, the Fair Debt Collection Act allows a debtor to be released of a debt if it has not been paid or acknowledged for 4 years. This means that if you have not paid 1 penny on that debt in 4 years and you have not been contacted...they HAVE to charge-off the debt (that is unless they can convince you to pay something, anything at all, even 1 penny...then the 4 year time limit starts all over again).
When you get one of these calls, you need to write to the company with a certified letter and return receipt (for proof of the letter) and tell them you want a verification of this debt. If they do not send you verification of the debt within 30 days, they cannot collect.
These people bought your debt for pennies on the dollar and will now try to charge you everything you have by scaring you. Don't give in. Record the calls and report them. I hope this helps.- Call type: Debt collector
- Mistie replies to MistieAlso, I went through one of these supposed "court preceedings" with a collection agency who came after me. They served me with court papers in California which ordered me to civil court. I tried to call the company and got their voice mail message, then when I tried to leave a message it claimed the mailbox was FULL. First sign of BS. Then I went to their website and tried to e-mail them. All of the e-mails came back undeliverable. They are shady companies. Keep track of every single peron you talk to regarding these issues (time, date, name of person, their position, employee number, etc.) Get as much info as possible on them so you can call them on their BS.
- nicobrew replies to Jayi just got the same, they are claiming they are sending a summons and that i have a court date. has anyone ever received a summons or been on a court date as it pertains to the debt these guys claim they have on you. they sent a settlement letter and not sure what to do, any help??
