- bigboythey called and asked for me and said that i had to call back if not they where going to send me to court and the funny part was they called my brother's brother in law and told him i had put him as a reference
- BigJay| 1 replyI received a call from a sales associate claiming she worked for the yellow pages. She was calling to say she wanted to confirm my business name, full address, telephone, my name, and my title. This female read off my information I confirmed the information, gave her my first name only, and just gave the title telemarketer. She said that she did that have that as an occupation in her system. I am positive that any business programs have telemarketer as a position. She started to list the the titles available. The first title she got to was administrative assistant. I said yep sure use that.
Immediately I intervened and said. Ok lets allow me to be in control of this phone call right now. I asked her so this is for the yellow pages correct? She answered yes its for the yellow pages we ship out and if you go to white pages or yellow pages type in your name and your info will pop up. I then asked her so this is completely free and no hidden charges cuz I refuse to authorize any charges? She answered no hidden charges and no fee, completely free. I then asked her for my security purposes I want all her contact information. Her name =Amy Salenea, Employee ID # = 1772, telephone number = 866-961-3498.
Immediately I knew it was a scam. Toll free call numbers come from 1-800 or 1-888 not 1-866. I receive spam calls all the time from 866 numbers and other area codes mostly based out of Arizona (Work from home business opportunities. She said please hold while I have my automated program activated so you can confirm the information on record. I immediately hung up once this started.
I may be wrong but I thought the white pages is for residential numbers. The yellow pages are for business listings. Also i shouldn't take that long to produce/printout and deliver the yellow pages. Why call in July. You would think they would call later in the month. Wouldn't the yellow pages just automatically update your information from last years and the vendor must contact the yellow pages to have their listings removed.
O well my brain is thinking to much. Just beware of scams. I fell for one work from home scam once and they constantly harrass me by sending me information in the mail and calling up my cell phone constantly with different numbers. Atleast 20-30 different numbers. If I'm in the right mood I like to mess with them. If I answer, its sometimes an automated robot message or it is a live rep. I say things to them I definitely should not be saying which could possibly get me locked up but they are trying to scam me so I play with them. If i do call them back I just *67 and sometimes just a recorded message, sometimes just a beep then thats it, sometimes i get a rep and I just let all my anger out on them- Caller: Yellow/White pages

16 Ways You Can be Phone Scammed
18 Nov 2008
When we started 800Notes.com we had no idea that telemarketing fraud comes in so many flavors. The variations include 'cramming', 'slamming', credit card scams, calls from telemarketers pretending to be IRS, sweepstakes and lotteries scams, advance fee loan scams, phone toner scams, fat finger dialing scams, and area code phone scams.
Typically the goal is to get you to reveal personal, bank account information, or to make you do something that will result in unwanted charges on your account. Individuals and businesses are equally affected by these scams although the schemes might be different.
In this article I will outline the 16 most popular phone scams. I am sure there are more, so if you have been a victim of a phone scam, or you know of a phone scam not mentioned here, please share it with me and the readers in the comments.
Send this article to your family members, co-workers, and employees. Give it to your teenage kids and elderly parents (studies show they are the most vulnerable to the scams). As the old saying goes, "Forewarned is Forearmed".
7. Free Listing at Yellow Pages: This scam targets businesses. The caller says that he is from Yellow Pages and is calling to update their records. He proceeds by asking to confirm some basic information such as owner’s name, business phone number, address, and company name. Then they start billing the victim and only then the business owner realizes that it’s not a free listing and it was not Yellow Pages directory that called.
The victims report that when they call to complain, the company plays the recorded conversation with the victim saying 'Yes' except that the caller is reading from a completely different script. The scammers replace one side of the conversation, making it sound as if the business owner agreed to a paid listing and a monthly fee. - TonyI think i was just scammed we will se if a bill comes or not from 1-866-961-3498
