I got phished from these people in an e-mail from Bank of America; and was having problems in my account.  They knew the last four digits of my account # in the e-mail so I thought this was real.

I got an e-mail with the phone number above stating that I missed a payment, which I in fact did. Well, I called the number and made the payment without thinking about it before googling it for details. Afterwards I googled and found this page and another one, both saying that it's a phishing scam. However, I called the number listed on Bank of America's website and spoke to somebody there that verified that the payment I made on the phone indeed went into their system.

Therefore, this looks like it's not actually a phishing scam.

How do you know this is a phishing scam?  How would they have the last four of the credit card number?  I was actually late on a payment, which is why I think I got this email that everyone mentions, and someone else said the same thing, and called the number, then the payment went through.  Evidence points to this not being a phishing scam, am I right?

Did some research replies to HowDoYouKnow
My wife called 1.866.963.1065, after we received an email (about an actual late payment as some of the other people in this thread did) and gave account number information - the person seemed to have detailed information about her account, but when they asked for more personal information she stopped speaking with them.

She then called Bank of America from a creditcard statement number and they went ahead and stopped the credit card and re-issued.

We recalled the number when we confronted him that we thought he was a scam - he was rude and insisted that he couldn't help us without our account number.  He name "Bob Menas" gave us another number 1-877-733-5734 which seems to be associated with Bank of America.

I called Bank of America fraud office and they said to treat it as phishing.

I then re-called 1.866.963.1065 (from another phone) and gave them a made-up credit card (real first 4 numbers) and they weren't able to "find me in the system."

My wife has a theory that this is a sub-contractor for Bank of America - that doesn't follow security protocol and if they succeed in collecting the late payment they get points, but if they are reported to Bank of America they treat them as a phishing scam. That is just nasty!

I got an e-mail from Bank of America Alert.  I did not respond to the request that I contact this number, 1.866.963.1065.
Always check the web address, customer.assistance.bac@assist.bankofamerica.com
In this case I went to www.assist.bankofamerica.com to have a blank page load with one word, Security on it.

From that point, I went to bank of america and all their number had the 800 exchange, then I searched for the phone number in google.
Because something is wrong, your initial response is to call immediately. In this internet age, I suppose it is best to resists the urge to take care of a matter.

    Got an email from customer.assistance.bac@assist.bankofamerica.com,
Logged into my bank center from my phone to check out what had happened. Indeed there was an issue with my account, as the thing stated, however I have already fixed a couple months ago with Bank Of America prior to this day.

After being a little more suspicious I contacted the private chat.

    "...
AlexanderBOA: Mark, you have received a scam E-mail it is no from bank of America,
AlexanderBOA: Mark,  Please do not enter any of your personal information and forward it to abuse@bankofamerica.com,
AlexanderBOA: We will prosecute the initiators of this e-mail.
    You: customer.assistance.bac@assist.bankofamerica.com
You: and the phone number is: 1.866.963.1065
You: Are you sure it is not a legit email?
AlexanderBOA: Yes, it is an illegitimate e-mail.
    ..."

The number is to a credit agency that tries to collect on BOA behalf by skimming reports. However, I didn't have a reason to collect, which is why this is just another scammed/phish of a credit agency trying to be the middle man.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOT OFFICIAL BANK OF AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got an email today. Saying call them immediately regarding accout number ending in 4 digits which does not match my card number. I think this is spam. But after reading more on this forum, how do they know u missed a payment. Also, the email hostname (assist.bankofamerica.com) seems to be ok. Is some one from bank itself playing nasty?
