Just received a phone call from this number claiming to be from the Social Security Administration.  The caller stated that my benefits were going to change in February.  Because the name showed up as "Unknown" I challenged the caller to prove to me that he was from Social Security.  There was dead silence and they hung up.  A follow-up call came a few minutes later from the same number asking who they were speaking to.  I asked who they wanted.  Dead silence again and they hung up.

Area code 876 is Jamaica. No Social Security office there. Lots of Red Stripe beer & not enough prisons.

 A man called me this morning around 11:00 A.M and said he  was with SS and needed to sign   me up  today for me to start receiving more money on my SS check next month from my late husband   as this was the last day  to sign up and  my letter  was one of the ones that had been delayed being sent so they were  calling these people by phone instead .I told him this this would not apply as my late husband had been gone for over 2 years and I had not claim what so ever with his SS.  Ask  him his name and he said Robert Anderson and he was calling from Washington  DC. Told him I would need more information then that  and he gave me   800-772-1213 to call and then call him  back. He then called me back in   a few minutes and  ask me if  had called that number and tried to all him back and I told him-- NO,   as I  figured it was some kind of   fraud.to begin with, He  immediately hung up! I would have not even answered the phone in the first place because my caller ID  stated  the number was 876-342-3608 called unknown  but my nephew answered  first and the man ask to talk to me about the raise I was to  start getting the first of next month but he needed more   information.

When in doubt go with your guts. I would call the Social Security Office in your area first and ask them questions. Usually they mail you info about benefits and this seems like that person was trying to defraud you out of money, glad you caught it in time.

DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
