This number has been reported on another thread as being used by "Jamaican lottery" scammers.

My mom has taken us through the same Jamaican Lottery Scam nightmare exhausting her bank accounts, pawning her assets and finally borrowing from friends.

The things that did NOT work were to change her home phone number 3 times (private) because she would call the scammer asking about the winnings and give them the new number.  At that point, I knew we would not be able to stop this without convincing her it was a scam.  I stayed away and did not answer her calls for a few weeks, which hurt both of us deeply and did not seem to help the situation.

The things that DID seem to work were:

1)  A family member took over her bank account and moved any money to a safe account as deposits came in and paid her bills for her.
2)  I told her friend lending her money that she was a victim of a Jamaican Lottery Scam and to please not give her any more money.
3)  A family member replaced her home phones with new phones with no call history. ***MOST EFFECTIVE*** Another family member set up call block on her home phone number so she would not receive ANY calls except for 30 designated numbers: friends, family, doctors.
4)  I took away her cell phone.
5)  I took her to both a psychiatrist and psychologist and we talked through the events of the scam. The psychologist explained that when people get to a certain age, the red flags that would go off in my mind would not go off in Mom’s. One could call that being too trusting, not wanting to be rude, too gullible, or diminished cognitive function. She suggested Intensive Outpatient Therapy “IOP” for depression.
6)  I started a blog fourwiseguys and interviewed Mom about the scam and how she felt. She said talking through it helped.

Thank you for setting up this site/forum. There is an uneven balance between good and evil and i want to tip the scales towards the good... and keep tipping until this Jamaican Lottery Scam of our elders is part of history.
