Got a call from this number, identified himself as  David Holliday  with the Federal Trade Commissioner.  That told me he was a fake.  He said I should have gotten a card about my winnings.  After some palaver I asked him winning from whom?  He said mega millions.  Well, I haven't bought a mega millions ticket.  But I strung him along a little. I asked for a phone number for the FTC.  He gave me a number, which turns out to be "Card Services."  Ha!  I asked him where he's calling from, he said New York.  Another laugh.  Then I said I didn't think he's with the FTC.  He was a little miffed.  I said he had pronounced Federal Trade Commission wrong.  He hung up.  It was some kind of scam, but I don't quite know what.

Consider this.  You buy a ticket.  Do they ask for your name?  No.  Someone wins, do they know who it is?  No, not until that person comes forward with the winning ticket.  So how would someone know to call you to tell you that you won?  They wouldn't.  Yep it is definitely a scam to get you to send them money for fees, or taxes, or whatever.
